Utilizing IT and AI: UNDIRA’s Informatics Engineering Department Hosts Guest Lecture to Enhance Students’ Understanding

The advancement of Information Technology (IT) and Artificial Intelligence (AI) has become a strategic step toward building a more efficient, adaptive, and sustainable future. However, behind these innovations lie serious challenges, such as the risk of job displacement, increasing cyberattacks, and ethical concerns surrounding data usage.
In response to these challenges and opportunities, the Informatics Engineering Program at Dian Nusantara University (FTI UNDIRA) held a guest lecture titled “The Utilization of IT and AI in Developing a Safe and Sustainable Smart City” on June 14, 2025, at the UNDIRA Campus Auditorium in Tanjung Duren, West Jakarta. The event was enthusiastically attended by all students of the Informatics Engineering Department and served as part of the university’s collaboration with PT Javawebmedia Edukasi Indonesia, aiming to broaden students' perspectives on the role of technology in shaping the cities of the future and the digital workforce.
The session featured two experienced speakers: Mr. Andoyo, S.PdI, MTI (Creative Director & Founder of PT Javawebmedia Edukasi Indonesia) and Dr. Koko Bahrudin (CTO of Indonesia AI-ID). In her opening remarks, the Dean of the Faculty of Engineering and Informatics, Ms. Desi Rahmayanti, S.Kom., M.T., emphasized the importance of using AI wisely.
“Make AI a framework for thinking, not a replacement for our own reasoning. Technology should enhance human capabilities—not stop us from thinking,” she stated.
During his presentation, Dr. Koko Bahrudin explained that digital network security relies on three key pillars: availability, integrity, and confidentiality. According to him, cybersecurity systems must not only store and provide data efficiently but also detect and prevent threats such as malware, phishing, DDoS attacks, and ransomware.
He also highlighted the dangers of social engineering, in which attackers exploit psychological manipulation to extract sensitive information from victims voluntarily.
Furthermore, Dr. Koko discussed how AI now serves as the backbone of modern cybersecurity systems. With technologies like Security Onion, Kitsune, and DeepIDS, network monitoring can be conducted in real time, enabling automatic anomaly detection. AI also facilitates data correlation from various sources and accelerates investigation processes using graph databases.
Meanwhile, Mr. Andoyo, S.PdI, MTI., stressed the role of AI in the development of Smart Cities—cities that leverage technology to enhance quality of life, improve public services, and ensure long-term sustainability. One of the core pillars of a Smart City, he explained, is Smart Governance—a transparent, efficient, and tech-driven model of governance.
He elaborated that the integration of inter-agency data, the adoption of cloud systems like Oracle, and the use of digital platforms can significantly strengthen the connection between government institutions and citizens. Oracle, he added, supports public interaction through chatbots and centralized data systems, making it a vital component in realizing adaptive and participatory governance.
However, he also warned that a fully digital ecosystem requires more than just technology—it demands ethical awareness from every individual involved.
With the increasing complexity of today’s technological landscape, students and the wider society are expected to become users who are not only technically literate but also ethically conscious. Technology, when used without social consideration, can have far-reaching consequences on its surrounding environment.
Through this guest lecture, students were encouraged to understand that technology is not just a tool, but a shared responsibility—a means to help shape a digital future that is safe, inclusive, and sustainable.
