Table Manner Practice Course: Preparing Students for the Professional World

The practice of Table Manners and Grooming is very important to learn as a Public Relations student. Table manner is part of the professional etiquette that a public relations person must have. Mastering formal table manners can make a positive impression in formal events, business meetings, or banquets. This skill shows that one has a deep understanding of manners and etiquette, which are highly valued in a professional environment. Grooming is an important element in the world of Public Relations, as physical appearance is often the first impression that others get. Students who are trained in grooming tend to have a neat, professional and attractive appearance. This not only enhances their self-image, but also boosts confidence which is essential in professional interactions.
On Saturday, 06 July 2024, Communication Science students concentrating in Public Relations at Dian Nusantara University (UNDIRA) held a Table Manner practice lecture with the theme "Enhance Your Networking and Grooming Skills for Future Professional Public Relations" at Jambuluwuk Hotel and Resort Bogor. This activity is part of the Professional Image course which was attended by 100 students from four classes.
The activity was also attended by the leaders of the Faculty of Business and Social Sciences, including Mrs Sigit Mareta, SE, M.Ak., as the delegate representative of the Dean of the Faculty of Business and Social Sciences, Mrs Sri Hesti, S.Ikom., M.Ikom., Head of the Communication Science Study Program, and Mrs Anna Nurjanah, S.Ikom., M.A., Secretary of the UNDIRA Communication Science Study Program. The presence of these faculty leaders shows full support for activities that aim to prepare students for the professional world.
In her speech Mrs Sigit Mareta, SE, M.Ak conveyed the importance of Networking and Grooming "Improving networking skills not only opens up valuable opportunities and information, but can also be a foundation in building good relationships for future careers. Meanwhile, grooming is not just about table manners, but more about appearance and confidence."
In addition to Table Manner practice, the event was also filled with various useful sessions. Dr Rosmawaty Hilderiah Pandjaitan, S.Sos., M.T., gave a guest lecture on Grooming, giving students insight into the importance of professional appearance in the world of work. In addition, Mr Cahyadi, General Manager of Jambuluwuk Hotel and Resort Bogor, motivated the students to be ready to face the challenges of the professional world. This session was very inspiring and motivated students to continue developing themselves.
Last but not least, Dra. Rita Irawati Pangestu, a Table Manner Trainer, was also present to provide special training on formal dining procedures. This training is very important for students who will later enter the world of Public Relations, where dining etiquette and how to socialise in official events are part of the professional skills that must be possessed.
With activities like this, students are expected to not only understand the theory, but also have practical skills that can be applied in real situations. As well as helping them to more easily adapt in various work environments that demand professionalism and interpersonal skills.
This Table Manner practice lecture is UNDIRA's concrete step in preparing students to succeed in the professional world, especially in the field of Public Relations.
