The Awakening Generation for a Sustainable Nusantara: Building Innovation and Inclusivity
The path to independence is not easily achieved. We certainly realize that recently, we have heard much news circulating about the obstacles Indonesia is currently facing. These obstacles include regulatory aspects, both internal and external, such as geopolitical tensions. Consequently, the public now stands at a crossroads between disappointment and an unyielding spirit.
Amidst a modernity focused on the acceleration of AI, the digital economy, and the transformation of global information downstreaming, the nation requires an adaptive attitude and a firm identity as a strong anchor for our existence, alongside the obsession with achieving independence, both individually and collectively.
However, if we look back at Indonesian history during the administration of President B.J. Habibie—through restructuring efforts, the mobilization of regional autonomy decentralization based on Law Number 22 of 1999, and structured resource empowerment—Indonesia once reached its best phase in recorded history.
Then, can we achieve that momentum again? Certainly, with a collective effort in awakening our beloved Nusantara. Approaching the 118th National Awakening Day on May 20, 2026, we are once again reminded that all parties have a mandate to advance the image and quality of the country, along with all its public ranks, through the grand theme: "Guard the Nation's Youth for State Sovereignty."
Referring to the spirit of National Awakening Day, we are reminded once again that the existence of the young generation is the key to the country's survival. The presence of the youth is the greatest investment in a nation's sustainability. However, in order to nurture and prepare them, efforts are also needed to create a supportive ecosystem—both in narrative and action from all parties. A healthy ecosystem will undoubtedly give birth to competent and moral individuals.
The first thing that needs attention is moral decadence. What is moral decadence? A condition where there is a decline in norms, ethics, and social moral values, whether individually or in groups. So, why is moral decadence important in aligning a nation's awakening? One word: sustainability.
Sustainability must undoubtedly be rooted in and return to morals. Knowledge, literacy, and experience certainly exist to strengthen our understanding, but at the same time, there are aspects of integrity and wisdom required to act and produce positive outcomes. Innovation does not arise from an apathetic or "couldn't care less" attitude, whether in small or large matters.
Amidst the excitement and pleasure that emerge through data, a wise person must certainly also consider what is needed and what is happening at the same time. This is the aspect required to simultaneously bridge a true awakening: mindfulness at both the individual and collective levels, both personally and institutionally.
Words do matter a lot, but wisdom makes up the mind—especially in shaping the mentality and confidence of the nation's youth. The smallest thing can turn over something massive, and vice versa. Thus, this is where all parties play an important role in awakening the country and its youth.
Ultimately, National Awakening Day 2026 is not just a historic day, but it also serves as a reminder that to improve and shape an excellent nation, it is also necessary to guide the Nation's Youth toward a bright future for Indonesia. Movement starts with the smallest action, the care to pay attention to those minor details, and how we utilize knowledge to foster compassion among fellow citizens.
Sic Parvis Magna, Greatness from Small Beginnings. Happy National Awakening Day, let's run and chase our dreams to build Indonesia with a shared spirit of innovation and inclusivity, UNDIRA Friends!
