4 Reasons Why AI and the Internet of Things Can Enhance the E-Commerce and Business Sectors

05 Oktober 2025

We understand that the pace of modern industry is highly dependent on the speed of data management and information dissemination. The roles of AI and Machine Learning are now key to driving the economy. Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning have become fundamental pillars supporting various industries and societal sustainability.

Their current capabilities enable large-scale automation and personalization, which significantly improves efficiency in terms of time and labor across various sectors, especially in Business (both SMEs and large-scale enterprises) and E-Commerce.

The use of AI and the Internet of Things (IoT) can effectively support the continuity of a business or enterprise. Some examples include:

1. Predictive Learning

This capability makes AI and Machine Learning vital in studying market patterns and user preferences, as well as providing data-driven insights. With the presence of these two tools, the industrial transformation process can be managed effectively.

A tangible implementation of this is the "For You Page" (FYP) feature on social media platforms. By leveraging predictive learning, this system actively promotes content and products that best match the unique interests of each user. Consequently, the application of AI and Machine Learning not only significantly enhances the user experience but also becomes a driving force for transformation and efficiency across various industries.

2. Cloud-Integrated Query System

The presence of IoT as a support system for AI and Machine Learning further accelerates downstream processes, especially for business owners, by utilizing the data made available through the predictive reasoning of AI and Machine Learning.

With a stable connection to servers capable of handling large data traffic, the business experience today is not only integrated but also well-structured on the server. This minimizes the time required for administrative tasks like inventory checks (stocktaking).

3. Ability to Work 24/7 Non-Stop

The practicality of AI and the capabilities of Machine Learning are not limited by space or time. In executing commands, they can operate 24 hours a day, 365 days a year without delay, except for required system maintenance. A prime example is the implementation of Chatbots, which not only facilitate rapid feedback between the user and the server but also streamline data collection processes.

4. Facilitating Interactive Open Marketplaces

Today, the Internet of Things (IoT) has a significant impact on increasing market share, far surpassing its basic capability as a mere data collection tool. In its business implementation, especially for Online-Based Businesses, IoT acts as an agent connecting real-world needs with digital solutions, thereby creating a truly integrated and automated open marketplace.

This principle can already be seen in several creative industries, some sectors of which are now dominated by video games. Although it does not involve physical devices, the IoT workflow is intelligently adopted in modern marketplace ecosystems, including the video game industry.

Examples can be seen in popular games that not only promote community campaigns but also provide creative marketplaces that foster the digital creative economy. One popular example is Roblox, which not only offers interactivity but also opens up commercial opportunities for the younger generation.

Some time ago, during a seminar on the Creative Economy held by the Student Affairs Bureau of Dian Nusantara University (UNDIRA), it was highlighted that amidst the rapid development of AI and automation as the primary drivers of industrial transformation, collaboration between campuses and creative industry players is crucial for fostering innovation while enhancing product competitiveness and survivability.

As individuals prepared to face the market landscape of 2030, UNDIRA graduates are guided not only to adapt but also to become architects in building the future business and creative economy ecosystems. With a deep understanding of the synergy between AI, IoT, and the dynamics of open marketplaces, today's students are no longer just consumers but are expected to become contributors who bring innovation and creativity to the nation.
