Eid Fitr: A Moment to Celebrate Triumph Through Togetherness for Nurturing Well-being of All

30 Maret 2025

Taqabbalallahu minna wa minkum. May Allah SWT accept all of our good deeds during Sacred Month of Ramadhan. It feels as though the moment of victory is once again approaching for Muslims across the globe. Eid al-Fitr, widely known as Lebaran, is an eagerly awaited occasion for Muslims after undergoing a month-long fast during Ramadan.

Eid al-Fitr is not simply a religious celebration involving the distribution of holiday allowances (THR), new clothes, or traditions like enjoying ketupat dishes. It is also a precious opportunity to reunite with family. The unique essence of Eid lies in activities that encourage sharing joy and togetherness, which strengthen the bonds of friendship and kinship among people.

For Indonesians, the Halalbihalal tradition is an integral part of Eid al-Fitr. Broadly speaking, Halalbihalal is a time when family, friends, colleagues, and even the community come together to seek and offer forgiveness to one another.

This tradition, unique to Indonesia, is considered sacred by certain groups. Once a year, leading up to Eid, millions of people leave the cities where they work to return to their hometowns, reunite with their families, and celebrate this triumph together.

Halalbihalal teaches that humans, as beings susceptible to mistakes, must extend forgiveness to each other in order to repair social relationships and maintain harmony.

Additionally, Halalbihalal has a philosophical meaning associated with the noble values gleaned during Ramadan, which emphasize harmony in life and peace. Specifically, it embodies the concepts of Habluminallah (one's relationship with Allah SWT) and Hablumminannas (one's relationship with fellow humans).

Among the pious, fulfilling Allah's commands (Habluminallah) is reflected in efforts to provide comfort and joy to others, fostering happiness for humanity (Hablumminannas).

Eid al-Fitr focuses on maintaining harmonious relationships with others while simultaneously practicing Allah’s teachings to coexist peacefully as humans. Eid al-Fitr serves as a moment to turn over a new leaf, striving to become better individuals through opening the doors of forgiveness. Through mutual forgiveness, inner peace and empathy are nurtured, which not only ensure personal well-being but also enrich humanity’s image as beings capable of living harmoniously.
