Management science is one of the keys to organizing the operational wheels of an organization. By understanding managerial procedures, not only can a person organize an organization through efficient planning, strategy, and communication, but they can also optimize the productivity rate of the entire work unit through good leadership.

Management is not only based on theory but also on practical application in various dynamic and often unpredictable situations. You need to understand concepts from economics, psychology, sociology, and even law to be able to apply effective management. Additionally, analytical and problem-solving skills are essential to face challenges and make the right decisions.

As one of the Doctors of Management Science as well as a lecturer at Dian Nusantara University (UNDIRA), Dr. Ryani Dhyan Parashakti, S.M., M.M., shares her story during her academic and research journey in the field of Management studies.

Dr. Ryani Dhyan Parashakti, S.M., M.M., was born in Jakarta on April 11, 1962. She is the third of four siblings who have lived in Jakarta since birth. During her journey as an academic in Management science, she started her education at the D3 level at the College of Economics (STIE) PERBANAS from 1983 to 1985. After graduating at the D3 level, she continued her undergraduate education from 1986 to 1992 and graduated with an S2 degree in Management from PERBANAS in 2007.

She then continued her education at the S3 level at Brawijaya University and graduated in 2024. As an academic who successfully achieved a Doctorate, Dr. Ryani Dhyan Parashakti feels proud of her accomplishments. "I am very proud of my research. This is certainly related to the duties of an academic, especially lecturers who are part of the Tri Dharma of Higher Education program. All lecturers are involved in management research contributions, especially on aspects that influence society," she said.

Dr. Ryani Dhyan Parashakti's career started as a Teaching Assistant at the College of Economics PERBANAS in 1995, and in 1998 she received a recommendation to teach as a Lecturer at Mercu Buana University while completing her S2 program at PERBANAS. When UNDIRA was established in 2019, she joined UNDIRA as one of the permanent lecturers in the Management Study Program. During her career at UNDIRA, she also served as the Secretary of the Management Study Program.

In addition to the career and educational achievements she has attained, Dr. Ryani Dhyan Parashakti has contributed significantly to academic research in Management Science. Her research focuses on Human Resource Management (HRM) in the healthcare sector, involving the collection of management data from several private hospitals in DKI Jakarta. She reviews organizational behavior and its correlation to productivity and patient service satisfaction.

In addition to examining the relationship between productivity and employee management, her dissertation research also reviews the impact of organizational management through leadership on nurse performance at one of the BPJS-affiliated private hospitals.

This research aims to contribute to hospital management in improving service quality as well as the role of leadership in the effectiveness of organizational management. Differences in service quality provided to patients can be a factor in productivity, human motivation, and risk management.

However, all forms of research certainly encounter setbacks or obstacles that researchers must go through, including Dr. Ryani Dhyan Parashakti. She revealed that the hardest time for her was during the COVID-19 pandemic, when data was very difficult to collect due to the implementation of social distancing and the busy schedules of healthcare workers (nurses), who were the main respondents in her research.

Furthermore, her motivation was also tested by the research deadlines alongside the implementation of the Large-Scale Social Restrictions (PSBB) policy. Due to the minimal data target achieved and burnout, she began to lose motivation to continue her research. However, with persistence and her love for management science, she managed to gather focus and energy to complete her research.

Dr. Ryani Dhyan Parashakti's research on HRM shows that the human factor is the main determinant in the sustainability of good organizational operations, with service quality reflecting employee welfare and corporate leadership management. Her work not only serves as an academic reference but also as a practical guide for sustainable management studies.

She hopes that her research results can increase awareness of the importance of HRM in the workplace, especially in the education and healthcare sectors. This research also serves as a valuable reference for students in understanding management dynamics and its application in the professional world.
