Optimizing Hydroponic Plant Cultivation: UNDIRA Offers Modern Eco-Friendly Agricultural Solutions at KMIXPO 2024

Kendari, Southeast Sulawesi – The KMIXPO 2024 innovation and technology exhibition held at Halu Oleo University provided a platform for showcasing sustainable agricultural solutions to the public. With the theme "Innovation for the Future," KMIXPO 2024 aimed to bring together educational institutions, practitioners, and the general public to collaborate and discuss advancements in agriculture, technology, and entrepreneurship.
Universitas Dian Nusantara (UNDIRA) participated in this event with the "Pemila Petani Milenial" team, led by Al Faris Noer Habby and accompanied by advisor Mrs. Lionie, S.Kom, M.M.S.I, faculty supervisor Mr. Boy Yuliadi, S.T., M.Kom, and UNDIRA Student Affairs Bureau staff Mr. Raufan Multahada, S.Ilkom. Hydroponics, which relies on water rather than soil, is considered a sustainable farming choice, especially in urban areas with limited land availability.
In his presentation, Al Faris explained the benefits of hydroponics for urban communities, while Siska Mailana offered guidance on plant maintenance techniques that are simple and have minimal environmental impact. Alongside sharing information on the types of crops that can be grown hydroponically, UNDIRA’s team conducted a workshop on basic hydroponic installations that can be set up at home. Visitors were highly enthusiastic about this presentation, which showcased a modern alternative to traditional farming amid limited land space.
One KMIXPO 2024 organizer remarked, "This event aims to educate the public on the importance of innovation in agriculture and technology. We are pleased to see active participation from universities like UNDIRA, which supports the development of sustainable agriculture."
To gain further insights into UNDIRA's hydroponic research and development efforts showcased at KMIXPO 2024, a session was held with Halu Oleo University Rector Prof. Dr. Muhammad Zamrun Firihu, who praised the event. “Through KMIXPO 2024 as an educational medium in agriculture and technology, UNDIRA’s hydroponic innovation demonstrates that sustainable agriculture can be achieved with the right approach. Hopefully, this event will spur further research in eco-friendly agriculture.”
The event received a warm response from attendees, many of whom found the concepts presented to be inspiring. A visitor commented on UNDIRA’s research, stating, “I am very impressed with what UNDIRA has showcased. Hydroponics is highly relevant to urban agriculture challenges in large cities.”
KMIXPO 2024 reflects the commitment of young generations and academia to advancing sustainable agriculture. Beyond providing new insights into agriculture, UNDIRA reaffirms its commitment to supporting eco-friendly solutions and empowering communities through education and innovation. With the presence of the "Pemila Petani Milenial" team, students are expected to contribute to food security through modern agriculture, while opening doors for future agricultural collaboration and innovation.
