Through Graduation and Dies Natalis, UNDIRA Reaffirms Its Commitment to Disability Advocacy

Education is a right that must be accessible to all people worldwide. As a country with a vision to ensure the prosperity of its citizens for a golden future, Indonesia has the obligation to provide knowledge to all groups across various levels of education. People with disabilities are, of course, a key focus and must not be alienated from the right to obtain the best possible education.
Indonesia has regulations that support students with disabilities, as outlined in Article of Law No. 20 of 2003, which explains that education for all citizens, including persons with disabilities, is a human right that must be guaranteed by the state. Furthermore, Government Regulation No. 13 of 2020 also promotes the emancipation of educational support for people with disabilities through guaranteed accessibility, provision of resources, and development of an appropriate curriculum.
According to Mr. Muhadjir Effendy, as stated on the KEMENKO PMK website, “People with disabilities must be entitled to quality educational services at all levels, forms, and types of education, both inclusive and special.” Commitment and service to individuals with disabilities serve as a measure of a nation’s progress.
As part of its mission to encourage active participation from all members of its academic community in developing students' potential, Universitas Dian Nusantara (UNDIRA) is strongly committed to supporting inclusive education for all groups, including people with disabilities. As a growing educational institution, UNDIRA recognizes that access to education is a right for every individual, without exception.
With this understanding, UNDIRA has developed various initiatives to ensure that students with disabilities have equal opportunities to learn and thrive in a supportive academic environment.
During the 5th Dies Natalis celebration and the second UNDIRA graduation at ICE-BSD on October 19, 2024, the joy of the graduates was palpable, including that of two graduates with disabilities: Ms. Amelia Zuhalmi and Mr. Jabar. Despite their physical limitations, they successfully completed their studies and proudly attended the graduation ceremony as graduates of the Faculty of Business and Social Sciences at UNDIRA. With the support of their families and the educational assistance provided by UNDIRA, they were able to participate in the graduation with pride.
The determination of these two students aligns with the speech delivered by Prof. Toni Toharudin, S.Si., M.Sc., Head of LLDIKTI Region III, Jakarta, who stated that the academic journey is indeed challenging. There are many sacrifices to be made, and the world outside presents even greater challenges. However, with perseverance and an unyielding spirit, UNDIRA graduates will be able to become agents of change, not only for themselves but also for those around them.
A person’s limitations do not determine the end of their hopes or define a bleak future. Disabilities do not prevent people from achieving higher goals, and this realization often pushes individuals to strive even harder. “A small positive change can lay a strong foundation for a better future,” said Prof. Toni Toharudin, S.Si., M.Sc.
The commitment of Universitas Dian Nusantara (UNDIRA) to supporting inclusive education, including for people with disabilities, is a concrete step toward creating equal learning opportunities for all. By providing adequate facilities and adaptive educational programs, UNDIRA continues to strive to create an academic environment that is welcoming and supports the development of every individual’s potential, without exception. This demonstrates that quality education is a right for everyone, regardless of limitations, because education is a fundamental right for every social class.
