Towards a High-Tech Future: Enhancing the Understandings of Generative AI

Jakarta, September 28, 2024 – Universitas Dian Nusantara (UNDIRA) organized WEBINAR #44, themed The Future of Cyber Security with Generative AI, aiming to enhance understanding of cybersecurity in the digital technology era. The event featured two keynote speakers: Christian Jonathan, Head of Business Department at TERRA AI, Singapore, and Aziz Kurniawan, a Cybersecurity Practitioner and Junior Cybersecurity Officer at the National Cyber and Crypto Agency. The webinar was moderated by Boy Yuliadi, S.T., M.Kom., a lecturer from the Faculty of Engineering and Informatics at UNDIRA.

The event was opened by Vice Rector III, Margono Sugeng, M.Sc., who emphasized the importance of technology in education since the Society 4.0 era. He explained that UNDIRA continuously supports integrated IT learning for students, faculty, and staff. According to him, AI plays a key role in facilitating various aspects of life.

With AI and technology, plethora of activities have become accessible. Therefore, as a university that accelerates the advancement of science and technology, UNDIRA strives to implement integrated IT learning for students, faculty, and staff alike.

In the first presentation by mr. Christian Jonathan, he noted that AI has undergone significant developments with widespread impacts, not just in education. Today, AI has become a primary need for many people. He also discussed AI regulations in various countries, including the EU, UNESCO, and Singapore, each of which has different rules regarding the use of this technology. Furthermore, Christian explained that cyberattacks have increased in recent years, both in public institutions and government sectors, making AI-based cybersecurity more critical. "AI does not require basic human needs like food or drink and can adapt quickly," he said, emphasizing the importance of developing Generative AI to protect systems and minimize cyberattacks.

However, according to him, AI is merely a tool that bridges the monitoring, development, and protection of information systems. The success of Generative AI ultimately depends on its development by developers and users. Currently, Generative AI still operates under human direction and requires continuous supervision.

Mr, Aziz Kurniawan followed up by explaining that cyberattacks increase every year, and AI can be integrated into security systems through machine learning methods. He emphasized that technology users, especially human resources like Cybersec Officers, play a crucial role in developing AI networks. Although AI can be optimized to detect and combat cyber threats, humans remain essential in developing the codes and data that are taught to AI.

The rapid development of AI brings numerous benefits, especially in education, but it also opens up opportunities for misuse. Therefore, human involvement in controlling and overseeing AI operations will determine its development trajectory, whether positive or negative. Through this webinar, UNDIRA reaffirmed its commitment to preparing a generation ready to face future challenges in technology and cybersecurity.
