Enhancing Student Creativity: The Use of AI in Digital Art

As many people know, the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in producing artwork has become a controversial topic, especially for graphic design students and other art creators. The presence of AI is basically not a significant threat as long as it is not used as plagiarism material, on the contrary, as long as AI is used as a tool that supports the generation of ideas, AI will function as a support.
In the era of industrialisation 4.0 which will transition to 5.0, Technology and Information have been developing rapidly. The rapid development of digital provides new benefits and challenges for humans to develop and innovate in facing demands. Humans now coexist with AI which is one of the main sources of creativity and information search, both for work and personal needs.
AI's generative ability to produce video-like work from just an image and a few text prompts allows video creation with just a few simple commands. There are several companies and parties that have developed Ai for commercial use such as GPT with its Chatbot and OpenAI with Sora that can create a 1920x1080p high resolution video according to the needs of the targeted device.
AI allows one to explore ideas that can be time-consuming due to the complexity in the elaboration of ideas. According to Dr Ranti Rachmawati, M.Hum., as a lecturer of S1 Fine Arts, Faculty of Creative Industries (FIK) Tel-U, AI will open the door to the creative industry for Generation Z that has not been achieved before, with the collaboration expanding the possibility of collaboration with AI.
One of the Public Lectures held by Dian Nusantara University regarding the use of AI in learning presented by Mrs Nani Teig, Ph.D that AI can help students find various inspirations. In the graphic design art world, AI integration can be applied in several ways such as helping visualise a motion capture animation or graphics to save time.
In addition, AI can be used to generate or make a graphic design idea into an interactive model that can be used by everyone. This can be seen from the use of AI in Augmented Reality applications through designs that have been made through 3D software applications such as Blender which will later be processed to become interactive visual Augmented Reality material.
For example, in ChatGPT version 4.0, it is possible to create a logo with only a simple image that can be recapitulated by ChatGPT after taking a picture through the camera. After inputting the image to ChatGPT, the user can give instructions or prompts to ChatGPT about the desired logo specifications. If the logo generated by the AI does not meet expectations, the user can ask the AI to recreate it until a satisfactory result is found.
One other AI that can be used in digital art in the creation of audio content either for music or as a dubber is Wavel. This AI works by learning the sound in a sample video or recording and can reproduce the sound of the subject in a given video. This AI can facilitate dubbing tasks especially for someone who has a language barrier, because the voice over option has many language presets such as Arabic, Malay, etc.
In the creation of AI works, certain platforms such as YouTube and Instagram have started to give users the option of labelling their AI works. This is done to protect intellectual rights and copyright. Although there are various controversies over the use of AI in the world of digital art, if a disclaimer is included on the use of AI in a work of art and no plagiarism is committed in the creation of AI works, there will be no problem.
