In general, "Halal Bihalal" is a tradition or social activity commonly practiced in Indonesia and several other countries after entering the month of Shawwal, which is the month after Ramadan in the Islamic calendar. The term comes from the Javanese language which means "to apologize physically and mentally" or literally can be interpreted as "to make hearts right so that souls can return to harmony".
In practice, Halal Bihalal is a moment where people visit each other, meet, and wish each other a happy Eid or Eid al-Fitr. This tradition is also an opportunity for individuals to forgive each other and cleanse their hearts of any mistakes or inconveniences that may have occurred over the past year. Halal Bihalal is often used as a moment to strengthen social relationships between people.
In a broader context, Halal Bihalal reflects values such as peace, tolerance, togetherness, and mutual respect. This tradition teaches the importance of forgiveness, promoting harmonious relationships, and building a solid and supportive community.
Although originally an Islamic tradition, the concept of Halal Bihalal has become part of the culture and social traditions of Indonesia's diverse society. However, the values embodied in Halal Bihalal such as peace, tolerance and mutual respect can be applied in a cross-cultural context to strengthen social relations and promote peace and harmony in society at large.

This Halal Bihalal tradition is also one of the activities carried out by Dian Nusantara University. On Tuesday, April 23, 2024, UNDIRA held a Halal Bihalal Eid al-Fitr 1445 and gathering which was attended by all operational ranks and the academic community. The event was held at UNDIRA's Tanjung Barat campus.

At the event, various speeches were also delivered by several main figures such as the rector of UNDIRA, Prof. Dr. H. Suharyadi, M.S., chairman of the UNDIRA foundation, Mr. Sagoro Dharmawan, and vice rector III for student affairs and cooperation, Dr. Ir. Muhammad Hasanuddin Thoyieb, M.M.. The event was attended by all structural officials, lecturers and education staff at Dian Nusantara University.

The Rector of Dian Nusantara University, Prof. H. Suharyadi gave opening greetings and a speech with the theme of how to undergo fasting wholeheartedly behind the concept of kindness and togetherness. With the theme of the speech, he explained that the victory that everyone feels during Eid al-Fitr is the right moment to forgive each other. We should all be grateful that we are still given the opportunity to be able to undergo the best fasting as Muslims.

He also said that worship during Ramadan is better done in congregation at the Mosque, this is because the blessings given by Allah SWT will multiply a thousand times and will reach a hundred-thousand times if it can be carried out at the Grand Mosque, Mecca.

In addition, he also said that fasting is a moment to be honest with yourself as a form of worship, namely Mabrur. The small human heart is something that is only known by Allah SWT and ourselves. All things done would be wonderful to start with sincerity and a step in improving ourselves in this blessed month. It would be nice to avoid activities that are considered negative such as; gossip and negatively gossiping about something that other people do. This can affect our hearts and shake our fasting deeds.

Furthermore, the chairman of the Dian Asra foundation, Mr. Sagoro Dharmawan, said in his speech that in order to be able to undergo campus activities with enthusiasm, he also advised that currently the times are experiencing constant change, where AI (Artificial Intelligence) is increasingly used everywhere. Therefore, he hopes that in the future he can improve learning and teaching programs at UNDIRA, so that they can use the implementation of AI in the learning curriculum. In the future, it is hoped that students can adapt to the new curriculum mechanism, as well as the teaching staff.

On this occasion he also conveyed to all levels to be able to work together and forgive each other. All must be more compact for the continuity of campus activities and the solidarity of all levels of the UNDIRA campus. At the end of his speech he gave the following rhyme:

"We wash wet clothes
Already clean we dry
Happy Eid al-Fitr
Those who want to forgive me a lot of fortune in the holy month"

Next was the Tilawah program of surah Al Baqarah verses 1-4 which was performed and read the meaning by two Qori. The event took place solemnly and peacefully.

The next event was Tausiyah which was presented by the vice chancellor for field III Dr. Ir. Hasanuddin Thoyieb, MM. In the Tausiyah session he conveyed several points that carrying out a good deed would be nice not only during Ramadan. The delivery of Tausiyah regarding self-awareness and improving life is certainly one form of someone being grateful for the life given by Allah SWT. Life is a long-term vision where everything a person does and what is in his heart becomes our responsibility until the end of life, therefore we must agree on what is conveyed in our hearts.

If there are differences between one group and another, it will certainly not be a barrier to one's development. As he said that in life "there are only perceptions that shackle us and keep our minds in a box". The need to realize that we can transcend limitations and preconceptions of something or someone can make us a better person.

In life, it is also necessary to use the PDCA concept, as conveyed by the Vice Rector for Division III, this concept is aimed at "plan, do, check, action" where this concept will help one's life to be organized and something we do does not burden our hearts.

At the end of the day, it is also important to remember that every action and goal we take should be beneficial to ourselves and others. Do not pursue something beyond expectations and live according to the balance that God has given to our souls.

After all the series of events were completed, all levels of UNDIRA structures shook hands as a form of Halal Bihalal. All forgive each other for mistakes that have been made either intentionally or unintentionally in order to strengthen the relationship between people.

Let's celebrate the tradition of Halal Bihalal with warmth and togetherness, strengthen the relationship and strengthen the values of brotherhood in our society. At the end of the word, all staff and academic community would like to apologize physically and mentally, hopefully all good deeds will be accepted by the Creator.
