Building Stronger Collaboration Toward Excellence, UNDIRA Electrical Engineering Holds Interactive FGD Alongside a Capstone Design Expo

Jakarta, August 2, 2026 – The Electrical Engineering Study Program at Universitas Dian Nusantara (UNDIRA) successfully held a Focused Discussion Group (FGD) on Saturday, August 1, 2026. The event was organized as part of the program's curriculum review and enhancement process in preparation for its upcoming reaccreditation cycle.

Conducted in a hybrid format at the Smart Classroom, UNDIRA Tanjung Duren Campus in West Jakarta, the forum brought together 34 participants. It served as a platform for gathering comprehensive input from students, faculty members, alumni, industry practitioners, and other key internal and external stakeholders, ensuring that diverse perspectives were incorporated into the curriculum development process.

In his opening remarks, Dr. Arie Pangesti Ajie, M.T., Dean of the Faculty of Engineering and Informatics as well as Head of the Electrical Engineering Study Program, emphasized that the forum represented an important opportunity to evaluate and strengthen the existing curriculum. He explained that the review aims to ensure greater alignment with the learning outcomes standards under Outcome-Based Education (OBE), the curriculum framework established by the Indonesian Electrical Engineering Higher Education Forum (FORTEI), and the Indonesian National Standards for Higher Education (SN-Dikti).

He further highlighted that the study program's academic vision should not be viewed solely from an educational perspective, but also in terms of preparing graduates who are competent, adaptable, and capable of meeting the evolving needs of both industry and the nation.

The discussion began with an overview of the curriculum, which now places a stronger emphasis on the Capstone Design Project, introduced from the sixth semester onward. Serving as the culmination of students' academic journey, the capstone project is designed to demonstrate the knowledge and competencies they have developed throughout their studies.

Representing FORTEI, Ir. Firdaus, S.T., M.T., Ph.D., IPM., officially opened the discussion by outlining several major industry challenges that should be reflected in the curriculum. He noted that rapid developments in digitalization and artificial intelligence, the global energy transition, and cybersecurity require future graduates to possess a balanced combination of technical expertise, digital literacy, and professional competencies.

The second review session was delivered by Sriyadi, S.T., M.T., Industry Representative from PT PLN Unit Induk Distribusi Jakarta Raya, who highlighted three strategic areas that should guide future curriculum development. According to him, stronger exposure to artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, and modern industrial tools should be integrated into the curriculum. These areas, he explained, represent key industry priorities that require continuous curriculum updates to remain responsive to technological advancements and workforce demands.

Expanding on these insights, Eka Samsul Ma'arif, S.T., M.T., Director of PT Sinergi Generasi Mandiri, shared the industry's perspective on automation and sustainable energy development, particularly as industries continue accelerating their transition toward green energy solutions.

Complementing the previous presentations, Rahman Kurnia, S.T., an alumnus of UNDIRA's Electrical Engineering Study Program and Founder of ROBINS (Robotic Inspiration), emphasized that practical experience must complement theoretical knowledge to improve students' project development capabilities, particularly through the Capstone Design Project. He noted that industry increasingly prioritizes graduates whose competencies have been demonstrated through real-world projects. In his view, the Capstone Design Project has successfully bridged the gap between academic theory and the practical demands of today's workplace.

In line with its commitment to strengthening project-based learning, the UNDIRA Electrical Engineering Study Program also organized the Capstone Design Expo, held at the Universitas Dian Nusantara Auditorium. The exhibition featured nine student teams showcasing the capstone projects they had developed throughout their studies, demonstrating the tangible collaboration between academia and industry discussed during the FGD.

Through initiatives such as the Focused Discussion Group and the Capstone Design Expo, the UNDIRA Electrical Engineering Study Program reaffirms its commitment to continuously developing an adaptive, relevant, and competitive curriculum. The program aims to produce graduates who excel not only academically but are also well-equipped to meet the challenges of an ever-evolving industrial landscape.
