From Big Data to Attractive Displays: A Brief Look at the Roles and Tasks of Software Developers

Modernization and advancements in information technology are continually opening up various opportunities in daily life. This is supported by the presence of Artificial Intelligence (AI), particularly Machine Learning, which can manage data quickly and with high accuracy. Additionally, the Internet of Things (IoT), now one of the backbones of global connectivity, also contributes by offering ease of access and flexibility. The increasing need for managing ever-more complex big data demands systems capable of presenting it simply.

However, the data we see in an organized display is actually a series of computer commands (program code) that require further visualization and simplification for users.

This is where the role of software comes in to facilitate the user navigation process. Software, simply put, is a program stored digitally and used to execute computer commands and perform specific tasks.

To meet the demands of various industries for a user experience that meets criteria and is easy to operate, software now comes with diverse capabilities and interfaces. This emphasizes the importance of creating software that is optimal and targeted to the user demographic. Therefore, software developers play a primary role, with the demand for them ever-increasing.

A software developer is tasked with developing programs, whether in the form of websites or applications. Although this profession is often seen as a single role—or perceived as only developing applications—in reality, a software developer generally has two main branches of specialization with very different tasks: Frontend Developer and Backend Developer.

Frontend developers are responsible for building the interface and layout that make it easy for users to navigate the software (whether a website or an application). Conversely, backend developers handle server development, coding, and ensuring data is processed correctly to match the interface design created by the frontend developer.

Realizing that in this modern era, application development plays a crucial role, not only in facilitating navigation and data management in various fields, but it is also essential in providing significant added value to every digital work.

Moreover, the world of software development has transformed into a strategic sector capable of producing innovative works from the nation's talent. This provides a competitive advantage to boost the national economy, especially in facing the challenges of the Society 5.0 era. In this era, the convenience and solutions offered by applications not only benefit end-users but also open up significant economic opportunities for their developers.
