A Cup of Coffee to Boost Productivity: Coffee Culture to Start the Day

"A coffee break for while to smooth inspiration." This phrase is surely familiar to UNDIRA friends, especially when break time rolls around. Among students and lecturers alike, drinking coffee and working from cafés has become a daily habit. Whether it's before tackling class assignments, racing against thesis deadlines, preparing lecture materials, or simply searching for fresh ideas—a cup of coffee often becomes a loyal companion.
The joy of a cup of coffee is of course never separated from the atmosphere of the place—one that stimulates not only the palate but also the peace of mind needed for working or studying. In today’s fast-paced era, besides coffee bringing a tinge of goodness for us, coffee shops too provide all the neccessities . Many modern cafés are now designed to maximize productivity and comfort for their visitors.
With features like high-speed free Wi-Fi, cool air-conditioned spaces, charging ports at nearly every table, vintage or classic interior designs, and calming music selections, most coffee shops now offer an environment that supports learning, online meetings, a place to innitiate networking, and freelance work.
Moreover, several studies on workspace efficiency have shown that quiet environments enhance performance. Low to moderate noise levels (around 70 dB) are considered optimal for maintaining focus. This makes coffee shops a balanced alternative workspace—offering both comfort and effectiveness.
It’s no surprise, then, that many students and lecturers now choose to work at their favorite cafés such as Kopi Kenangan, Kopi Tuku, or Fore Coffee. The inviting aroma of coffee, speedy service, and warm lighting all help create a conducive atmosphere for focus and productivity.
Beyond the pleasant ambiance and helpful facilities, coffee itself offers several benefits, aside from its memorable aftertaste. According to various health sources, the caffeine content in coffee can provide positive effects such as:
-
Improving focus and concentration
-
Boosting mood and motivation
-
Reducing drowsiness by inhibiting adenosine
-
Stimulating the release of dopamine—the hormone linked to pleasure and satisfaction
While enjoying a cup of coffee in such a supportive setting, friends of UNIDRA are reminded to stay mindful when working on assignments. Don’t let café time become an excuse for procrastination—stay on track and use the environment to your advantage.
However beyond leaving such a notable experience for us to enjoy, just like other popular foods and drinks—such as fast food or processed foods that are high in sugar and uric acid—coffee also has side effects if consumed excessively. While moderate coffee intake can enhance daily productivity and performance, overconsumption best be avoided or minimized. Excessive caffeine intake may lead to several negative effects, such as:
-
Increased heart rate
-
Stomach discomfort (especially if consumed before meals or by those with ulcers)
-
Sleep disturbances when consumed late in the day
-
Elevated blood pressure due to constricted blood vessels
These effects can vary depending on your personal tolerance and physical condition, so it's important to manage your coffee intake wisely. Remember, maintaining your health is just as important as staying productive. Without good health, achieving your goals becomes much harder. So yes, enjoy your coffee, stay productive—but don’t forget your well-being too friends of UNDIRA. Because your health matters!
