Bringing More than Just Breeze: Understanding the Meaning of the Night of Lailatul Qadr

21 Maret 2025

Ramadan is a time that brings abundant blessings to Muslims all over the world. Amid these blessings, the Quran in Surah Al-Qadr, verse 3, mentions a "night that is better than a thousand months," which occurs during the last ten nights of Ramadan. This is the Night of Lailatul Qadr, a night filled with glory, marking the historical moment when the Quran was first revealed to Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him).

This night is believed to be better than a thousand months, and anyone who worships with full devotion, seeking Allah's forgiveness and pleasure, will receive multiplied rewards equivalent to 83 years of worship. It's no wonder that Muslims strive earnestly to attain its blessings.

Lailatul Qadr is described in the Quran as a night full of blessings and forgiveness. In Surah Al-Qadr, Allah says:

"Indeed, We sent the Qur'an down during the Night of Decree. And what can make you know what the Night of Decree is? The Night of Decree is better than a thousand months. The angels and the Spirit (Gabriel) descend therein by permission of their Lord for every matter. Peace it is until the emergence of dawn." (QS. Al-Qadr: 1-5)

Surah Al-Qadr emphasizes that on the Night of Lailatul Qadr, angels descend by the permission of Allah to guide, bring peace, and provide salvation to Muslims. This opportunity given by Allah through His messengers serves as a great chance for every Muslim to seek forgiveness, increase worship, and improve themselves.

During this moment, it is encouraged to perform acts of worship such as frequent dhikr and reciting this supplication: "Allahumma innaka ‘afuwwun tuhibbul ‘afwa fa’fu ‘anni." ("O Allah, You are Most Forgiving, and You love forgiveness; so forgive me.")

Moreover, many Muslims take advantage of the last ten nights by practicing I’tikaf in the mosque. I’tikaf involves isolating oneself in the house of Allah to focus on prayer, reading the Quran, engaging in dhikr, and praying without worldly distractions. For those unable to practice I’tikaf, they can still earn the blessings of Lailatul Qadr by increasing worship at home, avoiding idle activities, and drawing closer to Allah.

While the exact date of Lailatul Qadr is uncertain, this uncertainty serves as motivation for Muslims to be more diligent in worship and good deeds.

The last ten nights of Ramadan represent a spiritual peak, offering immense opportunities to draw closer to Allah and attain extraordinary blessings. May the positive actions and worship performed during this sacred night bring blessings to all.
