Institutional Accreditation: A Commitment to Enhance Educational Quality

Since its establishment in 2019, Universitas Dian Nusantara (UNDIRA) has borne the significant responsibility of continual growth—not only in terms of facilities but also in gaining recognition for the quality of education it provides. Having graduated its first and second cohorts in 2023 and 2024, the university is now preparing for a crucial milestone: the institutional accreditation process.
In general, accreditation is an external evaluation process conducted by a certification body to assess the quality, performance, and standards of an educational institution. In Indonesia, this process is overseen by the National Accreditation Board for Higher Education (BAN-PT), which classifies institutions into several categories of “Excellent,” “Very Good,” and “Good.” The process involves a comprehensive evaluation of various aspects, including curriculum, teaching quality, infrastructure, and administrative services. The results of accreditation serve as a reflection of public trust in an educational institution.
In higher education, accreditation is categorized into two primary areas evaluated by assessors:
-
Institutional Accreditation
Institutional accreditation is a recognition of the overall quality of a university. Key aspects assessed in institutional accreditation include:
-
Leadership and institutional governance.
-
Strategic development and long-term work plans.
-
Information systems and supporting technology.
-
Collaboration and networking with external parties.
-
Faculty Programmes Accreditation
Program accreditation is a recognition of the quality of education provided by individual programs (majors) within a university. Key aspects assessed in program accreditation include:
-
Competence and qualifications of the program's faculty members.
-
Curriculum relevance to workforce needs and scientific advancements.
-
Student learning outcomes and achievements.
-
Availability of laboratories, libraries, and other supporting facilities.
Universitas Dian Nusantara offers eight accredited programs under BAN-PT, namely: Management, Accounting, Communication Studies, English Literature, Information Technology, Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, and Electrical Engineering.
Accreditation provides numerous strategic benefits for educational institutions in building relationships and enhancing their reputation, including:
-
Ensuring Educational Quality
Accreditation ensures that educational institutions meet the national standards set by BAN-PT, enabling them to produce competent graduates ready to compete in the workforce.
-
Providing Developmental Recommendations
The assessment process, accompanied by on-site visits from assessors, offers constructive feedback that helps institutions improve the quality of education and supporting facilities.
-
Increasing Public Trust
A high accreditation rating serves as a symbol of institutional excellence, making the university more attractive to prospective students, parents, and potential collaborators.
-
Supporting Institutional Campaigns
Accreditation outcomes can be used as a marketing tool and to secure government support for research and innovation development.
The ongoing institutional accreditation process is expected to reach completion soon, marking a significant milestone in the history of Universitas Dian Nusantara. Institutional accreditation is vital to solidify public trust—not only from students and parents but also from the wider community. Moreover, accreditation underscores the credibility and quality of education provided by Universitas Dian Nusantara.
