EQ and IQ: The Role of Both Factors in Carrying Students' Careers

Commonly, there is an explanation that intelligence is something related to a person's ability to absorb learning both academically and practically. However, along with the development of research, it was found that the measure of intelligence is not only at the level of how much an individual can absorb learning but also through emotional and spiritual aspects that allow individuals to foster emotional intelligence.

Intelligence Quotinent and Emotional Quotinent or better known as IQ and EQ is one of the competency measurement systems applied by Alfred Binet, a French psychologist in the 20th century. This applied system has become the determination of the majority of institutions both in education and employment in the selection process through school-college entrance examination tests and TKPD tests. 

IQ is a measurement scale of a person's intellectual ability assessed through standardised tests that cover various cognitive aspects such as logical reasoning, problem solving, verbal comprehension, and mathematical ability. IQ scores are basically used to assess a person's academic potential and ability to solve complex problems. IQ tests involve various subtests that measure language and logic skills.

EQ is a person's ability to understand, manage, and regulate one's own emotions as well as the emotions of others. It includes self-awareness, self-management, empathy, self-motivation, and social skills. EQ plays an important role in building and maintaining healthy interpersonal relationships, as well as being effective in teamwork and leadership. With the development of EQ, one's ability to process emotions is trained. 

Through one of the papers published by Prof. Dr. H. Suharyadi, he explained that in addition to cognitive skills, the formation of emotional intelligence will encourage a person's characterisation. In his book, Prof Suharyadi said "know that living the suffering of others will hone your humanity." 

In the real world of work, in addition to the presence of academic intelligence, a balance in managing emotions is also needed. this is because intelligence can only take a person as far as what they think.  

The balance between IQ (Intelligence Quotient) and EQ (Emotional Quotient) is crucial in achieving success at work. A high IQ helps one in solving complex problems, thinking analytically, and handling tasks that require creative and strategic thinking. 

On the other hand, a high EQ enables individuals to interact effectively with colleagues, manage conflict, and build good relationships in the work environment. The ability to understand and manage emotions not only increases personal productivity, but also supports the ability to adapt to change, lead effectively, and work in teams.

Of course, student development has become the responsibility of an academic community in order to produce graduates who are competent in a rapidly changing era. As one of the Independent Campus programmes that supports student freedom and flexibility towards the development and innovation of the world of education. 

Therefore, as a campus that is guided by the Independent Campus programme, Dian Nusantara University is a campus that provides facilities for students to develop potential and innovation. In addition to academic achievement, Dian Nusantara University also upholds the development of graduates with character so that they not only become graduates who excel in academics, but also become graduates with character in the world of work.
