Improving the Quality of Education Through International Cooperation: UNDIRA and USM Sign MoU

Jakarta 2 July 2024, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was officially signed between Universitas Dian Nusantara (UNDIRA) and Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM). The event began with a prayer together, then continued with remarks delivered by representatives of each institution.

In his speech, Prof. Suharyadi as the Rector of Dian Nusantara University highlighted that UNDIRA will enter its fifth year in September 2024. He also noted UNDIRA's various collaborations and achievements during this period.

Prof. Suharyadi also shared his experience as Rector of Universitas Mercu Buana (UMB), that his collaboration with USM had a positive development impact on UMB. In connection with this, Prof. Suharyadi, who now serves as Rector of Dian Nusantara University, hopes that the collaboration between UNDIRA and USM can have an impact on improving the quality of education at Dian Nusantara University in the future.

Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) was represented by two delegates in the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signing ceremony, namely Prof. Dr. Anees Janee Ali, Associate Professor from the School of Management (SOM), and Salameh Al Khazaleh, Teaching Assistant from SOM. In his speech, he said that currently, only 10% of USM students are from Indonesia, while the majority are Chinese. In the world university rankings, USM occupies the 145th position, down from the 135th position in the previous year.

This collaboration is highly anticipated as it provides a great opportunity for the development of educational programmes, especially in terms of Curriculum Review and regular Visiting Lecture. It is hoped that this collaboration will encourage continuous knowledge exchange between the two institutions.

One of the benefits of the Curriculum Review is the revision and evaluation of assessment methods applied to students' final assignments and semester exams. According to Prof Anees, this Curriculum Review activity will usher in a change in the percentage of assessment allocated to students, so as to increase objectivity and reflect serious contributions to research without overburdening students. As well as to ensure that the implemented curriculum is aligned with international standards, remains relevant to industry developments, and improves the competence and competitiveness of graduates in the global market.

This collaboration has a broader scope, as one of the speakers, Prof. Dr Anees Janee, pointed out. Students, lecturers, and some university staff will have the opportunity to participate in exchange programmes between the two universities. Along with the implementation of the Curriculum Review programme and academic visits from visiting lecturers, this is also supported by the Kampus Merdeka effort. The support provided through the Kampus Merdeka programme is expected to strengthen the collaboration that will benefit lecturers and students in the future.
