Cyber Security and the Role of Informatics Engineering for Data Safety

In a digital information system, of course, there are safeguards available so that the information in the system does not leave or fall into unauthorized hands. With the transformation of network connections that allow access to information from all angles, there is a possibility of attacks on weak corners of the system by hackers.
Based on data from the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology (Kemkominfo), internet users in Indonesia have reached 82 million people. With so much network traffic in Indonesia, ensuring the security of user experience and personal data is a primary concern.
Not long ago in Indonesia, the National Data Center was hacked by the hacker group "Lockbit". In its action, the hacker group asked the Indonesian government for a ransom of 8 million US Dollars or the equivalent of 131 billion Rupiah so that the stolen data could be returned. Director of Network & IT Solution Telkom Group, Herlan Wijanarko said that Telkom Group and the National Data Center are working together to recover data that has been breached, "We are working hard to recover with the resources we have. What is clear is that the data that has been hit by this ransom cannot be recovered, so we are using the resources we still have". (News reference source: CNB Indonesia)
One of the American internet network monitoring and cyber security companies, Akamai revealed that Indonesia is at high risk of becoming the highest hacker target country replacing China. Out of 175 countries investigated, Indonesia shows 38% of total hacking traffic targets on the internet. According to David Belson of Akamai Research, internet speed has no relation to the potential of hackers. Hacking actions do occur only because of the weakness of Indonesia's cyber defense system.
Cyber security's role in national defense is critical and includes protecting critical infrastructure, sensitive data, and government communications from cyberattacks. It involves the prevention, detection and response to cyber threats that can disrupt public services, damage information systems and steal confidential information.
The Indonesian government has taken significant steps by establishing the National Cyber and Crypto Agency (BSSN) to coordinate national cyber protection efforts. In addition, the private and public sectors continue to invest in cybersecurity infrastructure to protect data and systems.
The role of informatics engineering and cybersecurity in saving state data from being hacked is crucial and interrelated. Informatics engineering provides the technical foundation by designing, building and maintaining efficient and reliable information systems. In this process, security aspects must be integrated from the outset to ensure that each component of the system is resistant to potential threats.
Knowledge in informatics engineering is required to understand how the system works and where its potential vulnerabilities are, while cybersecurity adds a layer of protection by developing methods to identify, prevent, and respond to threats. As a university that provides Informatics Engineering knowledge along with an independent campus guided by learning with technology and science, Dian Nusantara University targets graduates who are competitive in the world of industry and technology in 2030.
Increased awareness of the importance of cybersecurity also opens up opportunities for education and training in this area, expanding the base of skilled cybersecurity professionals. Technological innovations such as artificial intelligence, data analytics and blockchain also offer new ways to improve security.
