Dian Nusantara University Hosts Election Workshop by Radio Republik Indonesia (RRI)

Dian Nusantara University (UNDIRA) had the honor of hosting the Election Workshop organized by Radio Republik Indonesia on Thursday, May 16, 2024, UNDIRA Tanjung Duren Campus, West Jakarta. This event was also broadcast live through the RRI Digital application, the RRI Net Official YouTube channel and Instagram @rriprograma3.
This episode of the workshop raised the theme "Election 2024, a Decisive Point towards the Maturity of Indonesian Democracy". Present as invitees, representatives from UNDIRA Vice Chancellor III Dr. Ir. M. Hasanuddin Thoyieb, MM, Dean of the Faculty of Business and Social Sciences, Caturida M.Ak., Ph.D and Secretary of the Communication Science Study Program Anna Nurjanah, M.A..
More than 120 UNDIRA students attended as audience and listened enthusiastically to the discussion which was guided directly by the moderator and senior RRI presenter, Zaini. Present in this activity were various well-known speakers in their fields ranging from National University Political Communication Analyst Dr. Irfan Fauzi Arief, political observer and Rector of Muhammadiyah Jakarta University Prof. Ma'mun Murod Al Barbasy, Association for Elections and Democracy (Perludem) Researcher Kahfi Adlan Hafiz and Deputy Chairman of the Prabowo-Gibran Campaign Team Silvester Matutina. In addition, the entertainment session was hosted by singer Hanin Dhiya and comedian Andre Skuter.
During the event, the speakers discussed the synergy that can be done by various parties in building the country after the election. Each speaker conveyed his ideas and hopes for the leadership of the Indonesian president and cabinet in the future and also gave his views on the implementation of the 2024 elections.
One of the speakers, Dr. Irfan Fauzi Arief, on his occasion urged the younger generation to be careful in choosing leaders and continue to hone critical thinking. "The young generation should not be apathetic when they see that what should be ideal is not ideal," he said.
In the middle of the discussion session, the moderator also gave students the opportunity to ask questions to the speakers. One of the UNDIRA Communication Studies Program students, Aghais Izzul Haq, asked about the election process which was filled with a lot of drama and the existence of a silent majority of young people. "How to overcome the distrust of the various dramas that exist and even have the potential to eliminate the voices of young people who are the silent majority?" he said.
The question also sparked discussion and triggered various responses from the speakers. Prof. Ma'mun stated that the election process is now over, but the various notes that occurred during its implementation need to be used as an evaluation for the implementation of future elections. This is done so that youth in particular and society in general do not lose trust in state institutions.
This activity provides fresh perspectives on the implementation of democracy to students who are mostly Generation Z. The ability to express opinions well and think critically are important competencies that students can also develop through open discussion activities like this.
