National Education Day, known by its acronym HARDIKNAS, is a day to commemorate the history of the development and emancipation of education held once a year on May 2.

The concept of National Education Day is an effort to appreciate and commemorate the importance of education in nation building. It is a day set aside by a country's government to highlight the role of education in shaping character, opening up opportunities, and improving the quality of life. National Education Day is often used as an opportunity to promote important values in education, such as justice, equality, inclusivity and academic excellence.

From National Education Day, there is an Indonesian education fighter who has become a reference for education to this day, namely Ki Hajar Dewantara. He became a pioneer of education in Indonesia.

Ki Hajar Dewantara was born in Jogjakarta on May 2, 1889, although Ki Hajar Dewantara came from a noble family, he was a socialist who understood the conditions of his country. At a young age he studied at a lower school for European children, the Europeesche Lagere School (ELS). As he grew older, he had the opportunity to continue his education.

An Inspirational Educational Journey

Ki Hajar Dewantara faced many obstacles in realizing his vision of education. Despite being imprisoned by the Dutch colonial government for his political activities, his passion for education never waned. In 1912, he founded a school called Taman Siswa, which became the forerunner of modern Indonesian national education. Taman Siswa not only provides knowledge, but also teaches courage, independence, and love for the country.

Education for Generation Z: Building a Quality Future

Generation Z, a group of people born between 1990-2010, is an important part of Indonesia's future. They grew up in the digital age with wide access to information. However, the challenges they face are also increasingly complex. For Generation Z, education day is an important moment to remember. The many challenges ahead are increasingly complicated and the rapid development of information and telecommunications centers makes this generation not only dependent on book knowledge. The deepening of soft skills and character development in order to achieve an independent and expressive person is certainly relevant for generation Z.

Appreciating Ki Hajar Dewantara's Dedication in the Present Time

When celebrating National Education Day, let us remember the dedication and struggle of Ki Hajar Dewantara in fighting for the right to education for every child of the nation. Through understanding his values, we can continue to develop an education system that is inclusive, progressive, and relevant for current and future generations.

Education is not only the responsibility of the government or educational institutions but also the duty of all elements of society to develop it. Thus, let us join hands to ensure that every Indonesian child gets a decent and quality education as envisioned by Ki Hajar Dewantara.

As Dian Nusantara University students, continue to learn and maintain the spirit of Ki Hajar Dewantara's history in order to always carry on his struggle for Indonesian education for future generations so that Indonesia can achieve a generation that produces visionaries, integrity and professionals in accordance with the values at Dian Nusantara University.

Happy National Education Day Let's keep fighting for a better educational future for generation Z and all Indonesian children.
