UNDIRA Management Study Program Visits Bank Mandiri Greenville Branch to Strengthen Capital Market Literacy

Jakarta, October 28, 2026 – Many people see the capital market as complicated and full of risks. It is understandable, especially when their only exposure to it comes from watching numbers fluctuate on a screen. Yet, for those willing to learn more, the capital market offers opportunities, encourages discipline, and teaches valuable lessons about managing money wisely. These lessons cannot be fully learned from textbooks alone. They also come from professionals who work in the field every day. With this in mind, the Management Study Program at Universitas Dian Nusantara (UNDIRA), in collaboration with Growin by Mandiri Sekuritas, held a seminar titled “Financial Clinic: Strengthening Financial Literacy and Investment Awareness from an Early Age.”, on October 27th 2026.

Held at Bank Mandiri's Greenville Sub-Branch Office (KCP) in West Jakarta, the financial literacy seminar welcomed 23 enthusiastic students from UNDIRA's Management Study Program. They were accompanied by the Head of the Management Study Program, Ari Apriani, S.E., M.M., Director of Innovation and Business Development of UNDIRA, Eriklex Donald Sahusilawane, S.E., M.M., and Luthfi Alhazami, S.E., M.M., a Management lecturer who also serves as Head of the Center for MKCU and MBKM.

Opening the session, Indah January Masimambow, Branch Manager of Bank Mandiri's Greenville Sub-Branch Office, emphasized the importance of helping young people develop a more careful and informed approach to monitoring stock market movements, particularly amid market uncertainty. She reminded students that investing should not be driven by the pursuit of quick profits alone. A solid understanding of the market, she explained, is an investor's most valuable asset.

“Investment management is not just about setting profit targets. We need to develop the right asset allocation strategy, understand the risks associated with different stocks and their respective sectors, and establish an effective exit strategy. This allows us to manage risk while still pursuing potential returns,” said Indah January Masimambow.

Sharing a similar perspective, UNDIRA's Vice Rector II for Human Resources and Finance, Dwi Sapto Febriantaka, M.A., attended the seminar in person alongside the students. He expressed his hope that financial literacy initiatives like this would broaden students' investment knowledge and encourage them to become active investors in Indonesia's capital market.

“You do not necessarily need a large amount of money to start investing. What matters is having the willingness to learn and taking the time to follow the news so that your understanding stays up to date. I hope the knowledge you gain today will be useful not only in your studies but also when you eventually enter the world of investment,” said Dwi Sapto Febriantaka, M.A.

During the main session, Norman, a Financial Literacy Educator at Growin by Mandiri, encouraged students to rethink how they view and analyze the capital market. He explained that stocks are more than just codes and numbers moving across a screen. Each stock represents partial ownership in a real business, the value of which can rise and fall in response to changing market conditions.

Building on this foundation, the discussion explored two widely used approaches to stock analysis: fundamental analysis and technical analysis. Fundamental analysis involves assessing a company's financial health by examining its financial statements, profitability, debt levels, and future business prospects. This approach helps investors answer a fundamental question: Is this company worth owning over the long term?

Technical analysis, meanwhile, focuses on price movements and trading volumes displayed on charts. By identifying patterns and trends, investors can better assess market direction and determine when to enter or exit a position. Norman emphasized that these two approaches should not be viewed as competing methods. Instead, they complement each other: fundamental analysis helps investors decide which stocks to choose, while technical analysis helps them determine when to act.

Beyond explaining the theory behind fundamental and technical analysis, Norman also shared practical tips for selecting stocks while minimizing exposure to unnecessary risks, including those associated with saham gorengan, or stocks whose prices are artificially inflated or manipulated. The session also included hands-on practice using the Growin by Mandiri application and the official website of the Indonesian Central Securities Depository (Kustodian Sentral Efek Indonesia or KSEI).

“When the economy grows and purchasing power increases, cyclical sectors tend to benefit. However, when economic growth slows, these sectors are often among the first to feel the pressure. On the other hand, non-cyclical or defensive sectors, such as food and beverages, essential goods, pharmaceuticals, healthcare services, and telecommunications, tend to be more stable because people continue to need these products and services regardless of economic conditions. People may postpone buying a new car, but they cannot put off eating or buying medicine indefinitely. This is an important lesson for young investors as they learn to build a balanced portfolio,” said Norman.

As the visit and learning session came to a close, Frieska Sitorius, Vice President of Bank Mandiri, encouraged UNDIRA students to remain committed to lifelong learning. Knowledge, she explained, is a valuable asset, much like gold. Beyond its intrinsic value, it can also serve as a guiding light in making sound investment decisions and managing personal finances more wisely.
