Heaven Opened for Him, the Mount of Olives Became Historical Witness to His Ascension – The Message of Jesus Christ’s Ascension to Become a Visionary Individual

13 Mei 2026

After His resurrection, Christians are once again called to remember His departure into heaven — yet this was never the end of the story. Exactly forty days after Easter, Christians will commemorate the Ascension of Jesus Christ on May 14, 2026.

Beyond its role as a historic religious observance, the Ascension of Jesus Christ also carries a spiritual message that strengthens faith and reinforces human values. The Ascension Day of Jesus Christ, also known as Ascensio Domini (the Ascension of the Lord), holds profound relevance within Christian history.

According to the account written in Acts of the Apostles 1:9–11, the ascension of Jesus Christ into heaven was witnessed by hundreds of people along with His eleven closest disciples on the Mount of Olives. During His ascension into the clouds, one of the angels said to the disciples, “This same Jesus, who has been taken from you into heaven, will come back in the same way you have seen Him go into heaven.”

Departure is often perceived as a form of “separation” for many of us. However, through the legacy of goodness and wisdom He left behind, we learn that Jesus Christ is never truly distant from our lives.

In a world shaken by geopolitical and economic turmoil, humanity is frequently confronted with moral crises that push religious values aside and distance people from spiritual principles. As we approach the Ascension Day of Jesus Christ, we are reminded that within His calling to heaven lies an active mission and enduring hope for our lives.

His Ascension also teaches us that we are called to become individuals capable of looking toward the horizon of life — both the future that stretches far ahead and the realities unfolding in the present moment.

The departure of Jesus Christ was never meant to encourage passive reflection or endless waiting, but rather to inspire humanity to continue moving forward and live out life’s calling with awareness and purpose. This was emphasized through the angel’s words in Acts of the Apostles 1:11: “Men of Galilee, why do you stand here looking into the sky?” — a reminder that faith must always be manifested through meaningful actions in daily life.

Ultimately, the Ascension Day of Jesus Christ is not merely a commemoration of a divine event recorded in Christian history, but also a reminder that every human being carries the responsibility to continue the values of goodness He taught. From the Mount of Olives to modern life today, the messages of love, hope, honesty, and devotion to others continue to live on as a humanitarian mission passed down from generation to generation until the end of time.

For Christian students and communities, the core values reflected in the Ascension of Jesus Christ align closely with one of the philosophies upheld by Universitas Dian Nusantara (UNDIRA): being visionary. Through a visionary spirit, the Ascension teaches us to face the future with hope, confidence, and faith in the paths we pursue.

The momentum of Jesus Christ’s Ascension reminds us that faith is not merely about beliefs kept within the heart, but about how those values are translated into real actions that bring light to the surrounding world.

For in the end, the greatest legacy He left behind is not simply the story of His ascension into heaven, nor a moment for humanity to dwell endlessly on the past, but rather a calling for mankind to continue spreading goodness, upholding humanity, and becoming individuals capable of giving meaning to the world throughout the journey of life.
