Halalbihalal and the 5th Anniversary of NBO: Strengthening Fellowship and Reflecting on the Enduring Nature of Shared Memories

Jakarta, April 21, 2026 — According to The Great Indonesian Language Dictironary or (KBBI), silaturahmi is a phrase derived from Arabic, consisting of shilat (to connect) and rahim (which may be connoted as the womb or affection). It refers to the bond of friendship or brotherhood among people.

Based on this meaning, it is evident that silaturahmi serves as a connector that strengthens and fosters harmonious relationships among individuals. Thus, reflecting the spirit of building togetherness and reinforcing these bonds each year, 160 members of the Ngaji Bareng Online (NBO) community held a Halalbihalal gathering for 1447 H while also celebrating their 6th anniversary on April 19, 2026, at the auditorium of Universitas Dian Nusantara (UNDIRA), West Jakarta.

Although silaturahmi brings shared happiness, it may also leave a sense of sorrow when loved ones have departed from our lives. This year’s NBO 6th anniversary and Halalbihalal once again invited all participants to realize that behind grief lies hope—born from cherished memories nurtured through silaturahmi.

Prof. Dr. KH. Nasaruddin Umar, M.A., the Minister of Religious Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia and the keynote speaker at this year’s NBO anniversary, emphasized that silaturahmi is fundamentally the key to reviving human values and enhancing spiritual well-being beyond the limits of space and time. He further noted that silaturahmi is not a moment that must be accompanied by sadness.

1

Silaturahmi is essentially the manifestation of the eternal continuity of good relationships, both for those of us living in this temporal world and for our brothers and sisters who have passed on to the barzakh realm. In life, humans begin from nothingness, yet over time, they do not conclude their existence in nothingness. Therefore, silaturahmi can be likened to a deeply moving painting. Although some among us have parted, we can still remember them with pride and send them ‘parcels’ in the form of prayers. This is what makes silaturahmi an enduring expression of good relations,” he stated.

A similar sentiment was expressed by the Chairperson of the NBO 6th Anniversary Committee, Ir. Agustanzil Sjahroezah, MPA, and the founder of the NBO community, Dr. Ir. Muhammad Hasanuddin Thoyieb, MM, who highlighted that humans are endowed with the capacity to build bonds of ukhuwah (brotherhood).

1

It is within the space of silaturahmi that togetherness is formed. Even though we are not born into the same family or share identical perspectives, it is precisely through dialogue and openness that the meaning of sustainable silaturahmi takes shape,” said Agustanzil Sjahroezah.

Memed Gunawan, a member of the NBO community, also noted that since birth, humans possess significant potential. However, he added that individuals cannot live in isolation and must balance their capacities with spiritual values.

1

In pursuing our ultimate purpose, we must remember that we cannot walk alone. Hablum Minallah and Hablum Minannas—which mean maintaining a relationship with Allah SWT while also opening our hearts and caring for fellow human beings. Humans are positioned as both teachers and learners, as we give and receive. Through every meeting and bond of silaturahmi, believe that change will emerge when we nurture and strengthen one another,” he explained.

This year’s Halalbihalal and NBO 6th anniversary concluded with a session of sholawat recitations and collective prayers led by Ust. Fadzlan Garamatan, reaffirming unity while nurturing hope for everlasting togetherness—both for those who have passed on and for those who continue their journey on Earth.
