Driving Emotion, Shaping Opinion: UNDIRA Student Examines the Impact of Verbal Communication in Timothy Ronald’s Content
Communication constitutes a fundamental pillar of everyday human life. In the modern era, digitalization has significantly transformed the dynamics of communication, both in terms of technological infrastructure—through increasingly sophisticated platforms—and in terms of user participation, where individuals actively contribute to building sustainable, interconnected digital ecosystems.
The steady growth of digital communication has given rise to expansive online public spaces, particularly through social media. Today, social media functions not only as a medium for information exchange but also as a creative arena where users produce and disseminate content.
Within the contemporary content creation landscape, beyond informational value, elements such as intonation, expression, and delivery style have emerged as critical form factors influencing a creator’s visibility. This is especially evident among the predominantly Gen Z audience, who prioritize uniqueness, authenticity, and expressive presentation in content consumption.
Littlejohn (2009) posits that digital media serves as one of the most expansive gateways for simultaneous interpersonal communication, enabling content to effectively capture public attention.
Among the vast array of content circulating on social media, influencer-centric content—often characterized by opinion-driven narratives and motivational messaging from prominent figures—has become a dominant component of the digital ecosystem.
In this context, a research study conducted by a student of the Communication Science Program at Universitas Dian Nusantara (UNDIRA), analyzing selected content clips from one of Indonesia’s prominent crypto influencers, Timothy Ronald, reveals that beyond delivering information and public literacy, influencer-centric content is capable of eliciting emotional responses and enhancing audience retention.
Kizilhan (2015) further explains that communication in the digital era extends beyond the mere dissemination of information; it increasingly emphasizes meaning-making and emotional connection as strategic mechanisms for sustaining engagement and network building.
The study highlights that Timothy Ronald’s use of colloquial, direct, and expressive language—minimizing formal tone—resonates positively with Gen Z audiences. This communication style enhances relatability and strengthens audience engagement.
From a digital communication perspective, audience engagement levels in influencer-driven content can serve as an early indicator of how messages influence emotional responses. These responses, in turn, may motivate audiences to take specific actions—illustrated in this case by increased interest in crypto investment and financial inclusivity.
Utilizing data processed and validated through SPSS software from 100 Gen Z respondents, the study identifies several key findings. First, communication messages perceived as highly relatable can encourage audiences to adopt similar strategies or replicate ideas presented within the content. This aligns with the Emotional Response Theory, which encompasses three primary dimensions: pleasure, arousal, and dominance.
Second, the study reaffirms that self-fulfillment in media consumption originates from the active role of audiences in selecting and utilizing media to achieve their personal objectives. For instance, individuals seeking to learn programming will actively pursue relevant informational resources. This also leads to each individuals personality to take shape to fit in specific vibes portrayed by provided content, alongside the content maker’s own persona.
Overall, the research indicates that communication style contributes approximately 82.2% to building emotional connections, enhancing audience comprehension, and stimulating curiosity to further explore specific topics presented in content—particularly within influencer-driven media.
