Building a Professional Image for the Future, UNDIRA's Communication Studies Program Reintroduces Table Manner Event

Bogor, January 4, 2025 - Dian Nusantara University has once again organized the 6th series of Table Manner events for final semester students of the Communication Studies Program to enhance Public Relations skills directly related to the Professional Image course. Besides being a learning platform, the Table Manner event also serves as an initial step for students to build a professional and ethical self-image.
The 6th batch of Table Manner took place at Jambuluwuk Convention Hall and Resort, Sumatera Function Room, Jl. Veteran III, Jl. Tapos Lbc No.63, Jambu Luwuk, Ciawi District, Bogor Regency, West Java, from 2:00 PM to 7:00 PM.
This Table Manner event, themed “Building Ethics and Professional Image Skills to Prepare Students for the Future,” featured four experienced speakers: Mrs. Laili Fithriya, S.I.P., M.I.Kom., Mr. Cahyadi, Mr. Ahmad, and Mrs. Rita Irawati P., along with Miss Elis Sumarni.
The Head of the Communication Studies Program, Dr. Novida Irawan, M.Si, also delivered a welcoming speech and appreciation to the Communication Studies Program students for their dedication in organizing the Table Manner event. “The Table Manner event is an important step in equipping students with useful skills for the future. The skills learned through this event are very beneficial, especially in the field of Professional Image, which will undoubtedly be key in facing the working world and building a good and professional reputation,” said Dr. Novida Irawan, M.Si.
In the first session titled Grooming Class, Laili Fithriya, S.I.P., M.I.Kom., discussed the ways to maintain appearance and self-care, allowing students to learn how to build a professional image. During this opportunity, students were taught dressing etiquette suitable for various required situations. As the saying goes, “First impressions are the most lasting,” personal appearance and dressing manners can symbolize a professional and intellectual personality. Additionally, knowing proper self-care can boost students' confidence.
Besides dressing etiquette, the Table Manner event also featured a Motivation Class segment presented by Mr. Cahyadi. Participants had the chance to develop their confidence in social interactions after understanding the basics of good appearance. Appearance is just a small part that can foster success. Mr. Cahyadi emphasized that a positive attitude and motivation to move forward are keys to achieving success in the working world.
However, looks and charisma are not the ultimate determinants of enhancing self-image. Students also need to learn Manners and Etiquette to prepare themselves for various formal situations. Etiquette plays an important role in the professional world as it reflects politeness, confidence, and one's ability to socialize in various situations, especially in business meetings. Having good Manners and Etiquette can make someone more comfortable and appreciated in building networks and communicating with others.
Miss Elis Sumarni emphasized the importance of proper makeup methods through the Beauty Class session so that students can understand the importance of maintaining a neat and professional appearance. In this session, students were given the opportunity to learn and practice various makeup techniques suitable for various events.
Looking neat is a form of respect towards oneself and others. It shows that one values professional norms and standards in the workplace. A good appearance can make someone more approachable and accessible, facilitating the building of networks and positive working relationships.
After gaining various knowledge on maintaining appearance and proper etiquette, students were given the chance to practice all the learnings they acquired. Through this activity, Dian Nusantara University hopes to continuously prepare students to become ethical professionals ready to compete in the working world, and to build a positive and classy self-image.
