In Commitment to the Tri Dharma of Higher Education: UNDIRA's LRPM Hosts Dissemination of Faculty PKM

On August 28, 2024, in support of the Tri Dharma of Higher Education, Universitas Dian Nusantara held a dissemination program for Community Service (PKM) outcomes. This event was organized by UNDIRA's Research and Community Service Institute (LRPM) in the auditorium on the 6th floor of the Tanjung Barat campus, West Jakarta. The event was attended by various faculty members from different study programs representing the Faculty of Business and Social Sciences and the Faculty of Engineering and Informatics. The event, hosted by LRPM UNDIRA, was held in a hybrid format, with around 200 students from various study programs attending online via Zoom, as well as in person.

As widely understood, Community Service (PKM) is an activity that provides an opportunity for the academic community to share the knowledge they have acquired with the surrounding society, enabling them to optimize local performance and productivity. Community Service can take the form of either practical or theoretical learning.

In the opening remarks, Vice-Rector III, Mr. Margono Sugeng, M.Sc., emphasized that Community Service activities are not only beneficial for the professional development of academics but also serve to empower the community through various activities based on the knowledge acquired by the academics. He also mentioned that PKM activities can foster sensitivity towards the social culture of the region where the PKM is conducted.

During the event, faculty members were given time to present the outcomes of their Community Service activities, which were conducted in collaboration with UNDIRA students. Various topics were presented by the faculty members, ranging from the optimization of local MSME activities, the implementation of procedures in the technology field such as data security on individual gadgets, the cultural context of QRIS usage in daily life, to research on material development through Concrete Compression Techniques, which are expected to be beneficial for construction development.

The event was interactive, allowing faculty members present to ask questions related to how the PKM activities were conducted and the impact of those activities. For instance, during the Concrete Compression Techniques session, a question was raised about whether this technique could be applied to enhance the competency of construction workers in project development.

In the Civil Engineering PKM, UNDIRA collaborated with Gunadarma University in researching concrete structures and their strength. This aligns with the Tri Dharma of Higher Education, which encourages universities to promote research and innovation among students to develop quality human resources.

Aside from Community Service related to construction, there was also a discussion on the development of MSMEs themed around catfish processing in Cogreg, Bogor, West Java. In this session, it was explained that the Cogreg area, which is one of the largest suppliers of catfish in West Java, could be educated on optimal catfish processing through PKM activities. Through these activities, catfish could be processed into various products such as catfish chips.

Through these PKM activities, it is hoped that not only will there be an enhancement in the reputation and cultural sensitivity of the academics, but also that the community, having acquired new knowledge, can apply it to improve productivity and local activities, thereby contributing to the prosperity of their surroundings.
