UNDIRA's Management Study Programme Provides Training to UMKM in Pasar Baru Jakarta through Environmentally Friendly Equipment Methods
Environmental problems that have been highlighted in recent years are one of the main focuses of all levels of society. Environmental problems have become a major factor in drastic climate change as well as an increasing concern for the continuation of life.
With an increased awareness of environmental management, it is certainly a responsibility, especially for businesses that coincide in densely populated areas, to implement an eco-friendly business. This is done to carry out industrial activities that are environmentally friendly, or eco-friendly, referring to business practices that seek to minimize negative impacts on the environment, especially densely populated environments.
With the planning of eco-friendly life transition, it is possible that with the passage of time and counseling on the concept of eco-friendly can be known and implemented by the community.
Generally, the application of eco-friendly business concepts is still classified as a level dominated by large-scale companies or business units. Through initial observations from some data, small to medium scale UMKMs tend to be less likely to implement eco-friendly businesses. Only two out of ten UMKM partners understand the concept of eco business, while the rest are less familiar with the concept. Thus, this will be the focus of this Community Service (PKM) activity.
In order to introduce the concept of eco friendly or environmentally friendly to the community, Management Science Students of the Faculty of Business and Social Sciences, Dian Nusantara University (UNDIRA) held a training programme to help one of the UMKM restaurants located at Metro Atom Pasar Baru, Pasar Jaya, Central Jakarta on 28 June 2024. In community service activities that focus on managing eco-friendly equipment to improve UMKM businesses, students of the Faculty of Business and Social Sciences provide education along with the potential to increase profits through the use of eco-friendly equipment in business operations.
At the beginning of the activity, a direct observation was carried out on the method of using the production equipment of UMKM restaurants in the Metro Atom area of Pasar Baru. After the observation of the activity, there was an interview session with the business owner on the results of the observations that had been made. Through interviews, it is known that business owners are aware of the safety of the environment for the sake of business operations. However, this is still an obstacle due to the lack of knowledge and human resources to implement the learning results on environmentally friendly business methods.
After observations and interviews, the educational activities began with a speech from Mr Achmad Tarmizi, SE. MM as the head of the PKM team, and continued by providing material by the PKM lecturer team. The implementation of the training was of course assisted by two students of the Dian Nusantara University Management Study Programme.
The training provided a better understanding of green production equipment and its integration in daily activities. The implementation of eco-friendly production equipment results in cost efficiency and waste reduction, which leads to increased business revenue. As such, the training has the potential to help UMKMs increase their income to support environmental protection efforts.
The activity continued with a question and answer session after the presentation of the material. The participants who attended enthusiastically asked several questions about the concept of building an environmentally friendly UMKM business and discussions on solving environmental empowerment problems in business and training on the use of environmentally friendly production equipment in UMKMs.
Thus, this educational and outreach programme with the concept of implementing an environmentally friendly business practices can be applied and are expected to open up opportunities to be able to develop the concept of eco business at the level of UMKMs that are partners in PKM (Community Service) activities.
