UNDIRA students make achievements in the Kemenpora Champion Cup: Jakarta Karate Open & Festival Series VII

Karate, which means “bare hands” (Sude no goshin-jutsu) in Japanese, is a martial art originating from Okinawa, Japan, with roots influenced by Chinese martial arts. Developed in the 19th century, karate evolved from Okinawan combat practices that combined unarmed fighting techniques with Zen Buddhist philosophy. Its history reflects the struggles of Okinawans who were banned from carrying weapons by feudal lords, so they developed effective self-defense techniques with their bare hands.
The development of karate in Indonesia began in the 1960s, when Indonesian students studying in Japan brought karate knowledge and skills back home. Since then, karate has grown rapidly and become one of the most popular martial arts in Indonesia.
In the range of 2010-current, there are many extracurricular and karate groups in Jakarta such as; Indra Sakti Dojo (Kyokushin Karate), Taisei dojo - Gojukai Karate, and Honbu Dojo JKA Indonesia.
