Linguistics is a branch of science that studies speech, culture and human language phenomena scientifically. This science also has various fields of work that are suitable for people who have the knowledge. Basically, language and communication science is an applied science that is flexible because language is the basic science used in everyday life.

Language is an integral part of cultural identity. Linguistics helps to preserve and study language and culture, so that cultural heritage and knowledge can be understood and applied to everyday life.

Linguistics plays a key role in the development of everyday vocabulary. By studying the rules of grammar and semantics, we can develop dictionaries, grammars, and language usage guidelines to facilitate communication and understanding between different individuals and communities. Along with the times, many new dictionaries have emerged such as the diction Dude which appeared in the 1990s which according to Google Ngram Viewer often shows an increase in the use of the word over time.

Through this example, it can be concluded that the use of vocabulary in a language as a method of communication will continue to change over time.

As a cultural identity, inter-language learning can also enrich one's socio-cultural knowledge. This can strengthen the appreciation between nations for the culture learned through each other's speech.

Language is also used in other ways such as the development of information and communication technology. In the field of programming language development and coding, language is certainly the basic foundation for the formation of a program. A program can run with command input such as print out or run program.

A program in addition to numbers and punctuation also requires input so that a program can know what to do, such as an example in a Python program that uses basic coding to create the following command;

print(“Hello, World!”)

Through the Python program, it can be seen that the “Print” language input will make the system execute the command and print “Hello World”.

With the times there is also a branch that combines the two disciplines of Coding and Linguistics, namely AI (Artificial Intelligence) training or training artificial intelligence. As it is known that artificial intelligence certainly requires its development through input from information and language. Therefore, language will be the key to the future of AI development.

By learning a language, almost any field can be mastered. Especially in today's generation who have many ways to communicate and also ways to get opportunities abroad either for work or an offer to study abroad. With the concept of learning English Literature and Informatics Engineering study programs at Dian Nusantara University (UNDIRA) in accordance with the Vision and Mission;

“To become a trusted and professional university with a global outlook, to meet the needs of the industrial and entrepreneurial world based on Science and Technology in 2030”.

Then UNDIRA graduates will certainly become professional human beings based on a mindset in accordance with one of the objectives of the UNDIRA campus, namely;

“Encouraging the active participation of the entire academic community in developing the quality of teaching, research and community service activities in accordance with the latest scientific developments”, so that of course students can compete in the fields of language and informatics which often develop every second for the nation and state.
