Pancasila the Unifier of Our Nation, the Foundation of Peace: Together We Build a Sustainable Country
It has been roughly eight decades since Pancasila was proclaimed by the first President of the Republic of Indonesia, Ir. Soekarno, on June 1, 1945, during the BPUPKI session. Nevertheless, the existence of Pancasila as the 'Philosophische Grondslag' (philosophical foundation) continues to live on in the soul of the Indonesian nation to this day.
As we approach the commemoration of the Birth of Pancasila on June 1, 2026, we are once again reminded that the existence of Pancasila is not merely a symbol, but rather a guiding principle to maintain resilience and drive development toward sustainability.
Amidst the currents of global and geopolitical changes that increasingly shake our convictions, the presence of Pancasila for the Indonesian people is no longer just a legacy, but increasingly provides answers capable of guiding us all toward a sustainable future.
Through the national motto embodied within Pancasila, namely 'Bhinneka Tunggal Ika' (Unity in Diversity), lies a power capable of strengthening the Indonesian nation against threats from both outside and inside that potentially undermine our unity. This is where Pancasila teaches us that differences are not an excuse to discriminate, but a gateway to mutually enrich and empower one another.
Nevertheless, strengthening does not always rely on force or power, but through simple things that will culminate in greater achievements. As one of the most populous countries in the world, with 287 million people and ranking 4th globally, Indonesia possesses massive potential that makes it the locomotive for the sustainable development of the nation with the greatest prospects in Asia.
However, such immense potential will not run on its own. There is one thing that serves as the key, and that is education. Besides playing a role in improving literacy and fostering an interest in innovation, education certainly also plays a crucial role in character building, which will subsequently combat moral decadence while nurturing a sense of care for the nation's progress in the long term.
Lastly, enlivening sustainability to unite the nation must also pay attention to economic growth in order to achieve social equity. This is to declare that we are not passing on the burdens of life to future generations, but rather providing an inclusive ecosystem.
Commemorating the Birth of Pancasila is not merely a ceremonial ritual. It is an invitation to pause for a moment, to reflect on how far we have internalized the values of Pancasila and applied them in policies, behaviors, and tangible choices that impact the nation and the state.
On this historic day, let us renew our vows—renewing our pledge of loyalty to the noble values entrusted to us by the nation's founding fathers. Not with thunderous orations, but with concrete actions: treating others fairly, protecting the earth we borrow from our grandchildren, and ensuring that not a single citizen feels left behind by their own country.
Happy Birthday of Pancasila, June 1st. One Homeland, One Nation, One Resolve to Build a Sustainable Indonesia.
