Macro Economy, Micro Economy: Why Should They Be Considered in Monitoring Financial Conditions? Here’s the Explanation, UNDIRA Friends

12 Mei 2026

As we move into today’s era of uncertainty, one of the most widely discussed issues around us is the increasing price of basic necessities and the weakening valuation of currencies. To understand why these phenomena occur, we must examine them through the lens of economics.

When discussing economics, we must look at the bigger picture. It is important to remember that the strengthening or weakening of an economy is not only determined on a small scale, but also on a larger scale. In economics, there are two fundamental principles that UNDIRA Friends should always remember: Microeconomics and Macroeconomics.

Microeconomics focuses on the most basic economic cycles and has a direct relationship with the economic activities of society. In microeconomic analysis, attention is given to daily economic activities as well as the management of limited resources to fulfill unlimited needs based on supply and demand. The core of microeconomics lies in studying the smallest aspects of the economy in order to improve our understanding of market conditions.

While Microeconomics is centered on small-scale analysis, Macroeconomics focuses on how policy implementation can influence overall economic growth. Macroeconomics covers various aspects such as national economic growth, inflation rates, unemployment levels, government policies, and international trade relations.

Some examples of macroeconomic implementation include the enforcement of mineral and mining royalty tariff policies, the Trump Tariffs that disrupted global commodity prices and supply chains, as well as the United States Federal Reserve System’s interest rate retention policy, which affects currency fluctuations worldwide.

Macroeconomic policies have a direct impact on everyday microeconomic decisions, and vice versa. For example, when banks raise benchmark interest rates (a macroeconomic decision), many SMEs may postpone expansion plans, while many individuals may delay applying for mortgages due to higher borrowing costs and interest rates, ultimately affecting their purchasing decisions (microeconomic decisions).

At the same time, if millions of people simultaneously reduce their consumption of imported products (a microeconomic decision), governments may later introduce adjustments to product distribution policies in order to restore foreign investor interest and increase national revenue.

By understanding both microeconomics and macroeconomics, we can see that financial stability never depends on a single factor alone. Every economic decision, whether made at the individual or national level, is interconnected and influences the sustainability of business activities, investments, and the economic welfare of society.

For UNDIRA Friends who are interested in exploring economics, finance, investment, and business analysis, the Study Programs at Universitas Dian Nusantara (UNDIRA), especially the Accounting Study Program, offer the right opportunity to develop both academic and professional competencies.

The Accounting Study Program does not only focus on financial recording and reporting. Students are also equipped with in-depth knowledge related to economic analysis, business management, taxation, auditing, and data-driven decision-making. Supported by an adaptive learning system aligned with industry developments, the Accounting Study Program at UNDIRA serves as a platform for younger generations to develop analytical, critical, and professional capabilities in facing the challenges of the professional world and the dynamics of the modern economy.
