Strengthening SDG Inclusivity: Collaboration between UNDIRA and Universitas Pelita Harapan in a National Conference on Business, Management, and Accounting
Jakarta, April 16, 2026 — As we navigate the post-pandemic era marked by rapid digitalization and energy transition, we are confronted with a range of complex challenges in building sustainable economic systems and business practices.
In an effort to advance the downstream application of knowledge related to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), Universitas Dian Nusantara (UNDIRA) actively participated as a co-host in a National Conference organized virtually by Universitas Pelita Harapan (UPH), titled: “Unpacking Sustainability in Business and Management Enlightenment for The Future.”
The conference, which centered on the governance and development of SDG-related concepts, featured two keynote speakers who are also prominent accounting practitioners: Prof. Mahfud Solihin, Ph.D., Ak., CA., CPA., a member of the National Board of the Indonesian Institute of Accountants and the Banking Risk Monitoring Audit Committee; and Dr. Irwan Djaja, CA., FCPA Aust., CGMA., CMA., ACPA., CEO and Advisory Practice at KPMG Siddharta Advisory Indonesia, as well as a member of the Professional Accountant Certification Board (DSAP) of the Indonesian Institute of Accountants.
Energy and resource transition represent not only a form of innovation but also a critical strategic response for industries—particularly amid the growing threat of global energy crises.
In his presentation to 295 participants, Prof. Mahfud Solihin emphasized that academics today are not only responsible for disseminating knowledge but also for enhancing sustainability literacy. In Indonesia, the formulation of the Job Creation Law alongside the Net Zero Emission 2060 initiative has further integrated businesses and academia in adopting resilient and innovative sustainable practices. He also highlighted that sustainability-related topics currently generate the highest level of interest in academic research and publications.

“Sustainability has become a highly relevant topic in improving management decision-making, green accounting, and reporting practices grounded in transparency and accountability,” he stated.
“Nevertheless, research now serves as the primary driver of sustainability worldwide. This is closely linked to addressing the global risk landscape and fostering strategic innovations to manage risks affecting SDG progress, including geopolitical, social, and economic issues, such as those arising from recent conflicts in the Middle East,” he added.
A similar perspective was shared by Dr. Irwan Djaja, who emphasized that sustainability is not merely a ‘gimmick’ to achieve short-term profit, but rather a business approach that integrates long-term responsibility toward the environment and society through CSR programs, transparent accounting, and accountable business practices.

“Sustainability, beyond being a conservative measure, also contributes to operational cost efficiency, thereby enhancing industrial-based production. SDGs can also function as financial value drivers through benefits such as cost efficiency in production and SDG-related tax incentives,” he explained.
“Moreover, the proper implementation of SDGs will also drive investment growth through the presentation of financial statements in accordance with standardized governance procedures such as PSPK 1 and PSPK 2,” he continued.
In this national conference, Universitas Dian Nusantara not only participated but also made active contributions through the submission of 10 research papers related to SDGs, presented in parallel sessions within the Focused Discussion Group.
