More Than Just a Research and Publication Companion: Let’s Get to Know the SINTA Indexing System

23 Maret 2026

Colleagues at UNDIRA, as well as lecturers actively engaged in research and Community Service (PkM), have certainly heard of the term SINTA. To briefly recap its background, SINTA—short for Science and Technology Index—is an indexing system developed by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology (Kemendikbudristek), and its management has now been transferred to the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Technology (Kemdiktisaintek).

As a system that functions as a repository for journals produced by Indonesia’s academic community, SINTA serves to collect various high-quality scientific journals and Community Service (PkM) journals that have been accredited by ARJUNA (National Journal Accreditation).

In this way, SINTA also plays a role in facilitating a more optimal and well-organized research and journal publication process, while simultaneously improving research accessibility through citations for the public and future researchers.

However, beyond simply accessing existing research, there is also a strong motivation to publish our own scientific work, not only at the national level but also internationally. This is where the advantages of the SINTA platform become evident.

In addition to categorizing journal index clusters and providing databases that can be used as references for further research development, SINTA can also be used to evaluate the performance of journals published by Indonesia’s academic community.

The SINTA Indexing System does not operate in isolation. As a leading and integrated academic and journal indexing system, the data within SINTA is automatically synchronized with Google Scholar, Scopus, and IPI (Indonesian Publication Index, now known as GARUDA).

SINTA categorizes journals into six levels, ranging from scale 1 to scale 6. Each level has indicators that reflect differences in research and journal quality. Scale 1 represents excellent quality with global recognition, while scale 6 indicates that the research or journal still requires further development or improvement.

Indirectly, the presence of SINTA serves as a motivator for improving the quality of scientific publications. The better the outputs produced, the greater the opportunity for members of the academic community to gain recognition across platforms such as Google Scholar, Scopus, and Web of Science, as well as to collaborate with various parties.

Finally, one of SINTA’s key functions is to prevent plagiarism and the spread of misinformation by ensuring that only recognized and accredited research is disseminated. For educational institutions, publications indexed in SINTA reflect both commitment and performance in supporting literacy for the nation.

In line with the spirit of strengthening impactful and beneficial research outputs, as directed by Diktisaintek and aligned with the Tri Dharma of Higher Education, the Institute for Research and Community Service (LPRM) at Universitas Dian Nusantara remains committed to supporting and empowering all UNDIRA academic members. This is carried out through various outreach programs, periodic monitoring and evaluation (monev), and interactive seminars where the academic community can learn in depth about SINTA indexing and practical tips to meet its standards.

LPRM UNDIRA continues to strive to enhance academic competence while strengthening UNDIRA’s position as not only a leading university, but also a trusted institution with a global outlook.
