Department of Industry and Trade of Riau Islands Province Collaborates with UNDIRA to Drive Kepri UMKMs Towards the Digital Marketplace

Jakarta, August 28, 2025The Industry 5.0 era has made digitalization an unavoidable necessity. Various industrial sectors now integrate information and communication technology to optimize their infrastructure and operational facilities. This advancement is supported by the accessibility of the Internet of Things (IoT), which creates integrated connectivity and enables sustainable development.

This digital transformation is clearly evident in the commerce sector, where the utilization of ICT has now comprehensively expanded to online businesses and e-commerce platforms such as Shopee, Tokopedia, and Lazada. Recognizing the importance of education needed for UMKM (Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises) actors to compete in this highly competitive era, an activity titled "Online UMKM Partnership Facilitation" was held in Batam City.

The event, organized by the Department of Industry and Trade of Riau Islands Province, represents an effort to strengthen the UMKM sector in Batam City. In order to expand the material provided from various perspectives, including academic viewpoints, the Department of Industry and Trade of Riau Islands Province invited Dian Nusantara University (UNDIRA) to deliver comprehensive presentations.

The Head of the Digital Marketing Center at the Directorate of Innovation and Business Development of Dian Nusantara University (UNDIRA), Muhamad Al Faruq Abdullah, S.Kom., M.M., served as a resource person entrusted with delivering the material for this occasion which involve creative usage of editing softwares to increase public interest.

Digital marketing is not merely a trend, but the key to surviving and thriving amid rapid market changes. He encouraged participants not just to listen, but to practice directly. UMKM actors were guided through creating logo and poster designs using Canva, learning to edit promotional videos using CapCut, and developing effective digital marketing strategies for social media.

"UMKMs can no longer rely solely on offline sales. With digital touch, our local products can penetrate national and even international markets. Therefore, I want participants to practice directly, not just understand the theory," said Faruq.

"Initially, I didn't know how to create posters or videos for my business. But after being guided by Mr. Faruq, it turned out to be easy and enjoyable. Now I have renewed enthusiasm for promoting on social media."
