“Sinar Ekrasi” Seminar Highlights the Role of Media as a Bridge of Communication with Society

West Jakarta, July 5, 2025 – Warm sunlight graced the 6th floor auditorium of the Dian Nusantara University (UNDIRA) Tanjung Duren Campus, setting the tone for the “Sinar Ekrasi” Seminar (Media, Narrative, and Communication Studies Exploration Seminar), which carried the theme “Positioning Media as a Source of Information and a Key to Building Relationships with Society”.

This seminar was part of a final project for the Mass Media Management course taught by Dr. Rafi’i, S.Sos.I., M.M. The event was officially opened by the Head of the Communication Science Study Program, Dr. Novida Irawan, M.Si., who was accompanied by the Program Secretary, Anna Nurjanah, S.I.Kom., M.A., and other faculty members of the Communication Department.

Through both online and offline sessions, The seminar garnered considerable attention, attracting more than 150 participants from various universities and communication institutions in the Greater Jakarta area (Jabodetabek). The enthusiasm of the attendees reflected the committee's success in organizing an event that was both educational and inspiring.

The keynote speaker was Hartono Ardi Lase, a senior journalist from Metro TV. In his presentation, Ardi emphasized the importance of journalists engaging directly with the public and establishing sincere and sustained relationships.

"To truly connect with the public, we must be present among them. Relationships built on sincerity will enhance the public’s trust in the media," Ardi stated.

He further highlighted that in today’s digital era, media has the capacity to deliver information swiftly, factually, and accurately across multiple platforms. However, this must be accompanied by the journalist’s diligence, accountability, and independence in reporting the news.

To conclude his session, Ardi invited all participants to join an interactive game called “Pikakua”, a storytelling game originating from the Philippines. The game challenged participants to construct a news narrative based solely on a 10-second observation of an image. This activity sparked creativity while offering a realistic glimpse into how journalists operate in information-scarce situations.

Hopefully the seminar not only provided deep insights into the world of media and journalism but also served as an applied learning space that bridged academic theory with real-world practice. By holding such events regularly, students are expected to sharpen their social awareness and communication skills—equipping them to become professional, independent, and ethical journalists or public communicators in the future.
