UNDIRA Communication Students’ Company Visit to Metro TV: Sharpening Mass Media Management Skills through the “Meet Nite Live” Programme

Jakarta, June 5, 2025 – The Communication Studies Program of Dian Nusantara University (UNDIRA) had the opportunity to visit the editorial office of Metro TV. This educational visit was part of the Mass Media Management course within the Communication Studies curriculum.
The visit followed a seminar series themed “The Future of Journalism in the Age of Disruption”, which previously featured speakers such as Heru Margianto from kompas.com, CNN Indonesia journalist Muhammad Ikhwan, digital communication expert Prabu Revolusi, and the “Meet Nite Live” team from Metro TV, including Valentinus Resa and the show's producers, held on May 19, 2025.
During the visit, students had the chance to observe firsthand the daily operations of a television newsroom. The observation covered the entire process—ranging from program planning, news production, to broadcast strategies and audience behavior analysis.
The highlight of the visit was the live observation of the “Meet Nite Live” programme, a late-night talk show that has gained viral popularity due to its engaging communication style and fresh content. The show’s host, creative team, and producers shared behind-the-scenes insights into how the program was developed as part of Metro TV’s strategy to stay relevant amid the decline of traditional television and the shift toward digital media platforms.
“We want to show that television can remain relevant as long as it continues to innovate and understands the audience of today,” said Iswahyudi, executive producer of Meet Nite Live, during the discussion session.
Dani Setiadarma, the lecturer of the Mass Media Management course, emphasized that the activity was designed to enable students not only to understand media management theories but also to witness real-world practices and the dynamic nature of the media industry.
“The combination of seminars and this visit provides a holistic insight into the future of journalism and media content management in a multiplatform era,” he added.
The students also had a comprehensive tour of Metro TV’s production site, making this edu-visit a memorable experience. The activity is expected to serve as a valuable foundation for students as they prepare to face the increasingly complex and competitive communication and media industry.
