On August 18, 2024, the Game Prime event was held at Mall Taman Anggrek, West Jakarta, organized by one of Indonesia's largest media companies, PT Media Putra Nusantara, also known as IDN News Indonesia. The event featured various booths showcasing and exhibiting works from Indonesia's gaming industry. The event was also attended by Mr. Sandiaga Uno, the Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy of Indonesia, who came to view the audiovisual creations of the nation's youth.
It is undeniable that E-Sports, also known as Electronic Sports, has become a popular competitive field among Indonesian youth and even worldwide. E-Sports itself is a competitive arena that uses video games as a competition platform. In Indonesia, many E-Sports competitions already exist, such as Valorant, Mobile Legends, and others. According to Minister of Tourism Sandiaga Uno, this should be supported because it is in line with Presidential Regulation No. 19 of 2024, which calls for the acceleration of the national gaming industry in software, where users can interact through hardware to play and receive audiovisual feedback through a game.
"With the issuance of Presidential Regulation No. 19 of 2024, we are optimistic that the local gaming industry will grow rapidly, providing many benefits for creative industry players in Indonesia," said the Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy of Indonesia, Sandiaga Uno.
This acceleration is also related to the development and role of Information Technology in supporting the growth of the gaming industry in Indonesia through the competencies of Information Technology graduates in implementing coding skills in game development. One of the educational programs at Dian Nusantara University, namely Information Technology, frequently launches various innovations in software development.
In the Information Technology program, students not only study algorithms and computerization theoretically but are also given the opportunity to implement the results of theoretical learning through various activities and practices. One of the events held by Dian Nusantara University was Technofest and Techtokfest, where students had the opportunity to showcase their projects, ranging from software building to traffic monitoring concepts.
Furthermore, Mr. Sandiaga Uno explained that with the development of the gaming industry not only in Indonesia but also internationally, it is expected that Indonesian works can penetrate the global gaming market. He also hopes that the growth of the Indonesian gaming industry will provide many opportunities to foster competitiveness and create new jobs in the E-Sports entertainment world.
The Game Prime event, which featured works from various regions besides Jakarta, such as Malang, Pekalongan, and Bandung, will provide motivation to enhance young human resources, especially in the field of Informatics, for the creative industry. With anticipation of the local gaming industry, the CEO of Ikan Asin Production, Banu Adhimuka, expressed his gratitude for the government's support for the gaming industry, especially for startups.
"We are very pleased to have been given a booth and the opportunity to showcase local works at Baparekraf Game Prime 2024. This is an important moment for Indonesia's gaming industry to continue to grow," said the CEO of Ikan Asin Production. With this event, it is hoped that the creations of the nation's youth can be showcased at international events such as Gamescom and Gameawards.
With the growth of the creative gaming industry in Indonesia, it naturally opens up job opportunities as developers. It is undeniable that Information Technology graduates' opportunities are not only in linear fields such as full-stack developers, cybersecurity specialists, or helpdesk support managers, but also in the creative industry, enabling the establishment of game studios with several teams as technopreneurs in the ever-growing gaming industry. As a university that provides knowledge in Information Technology, Dian Nusantara University is guided by the motto "Becoming a Trusted and Professional University with a Global Perspective, to meet the needs of the industrial and entrepreneurial world based on Science and Technology by 2030," and aims to produce visionary, integrity-driven, and professional graduates. Therefore, it is expected that Information Technology graduates can play a role in developing Indonesia's creative industry.
